标题: 没有numbers of这个用法么？
The commission acknowledged that 【no amount of money or staff members】 can ensure the safety of people who live in the vicinity of a nuclear plant, but it approved the installation because it believed that all reasonable precautions had been taken.

(A) no amount of money or staff members
(B) neither vast amounts of money nor staff members
(C) neither vast amounts of money nor numbers of staff members
(D) neither vast amounts of money nor a large staff
(E) no matter how large the staff or how vast the amount of money

D选项对。
请问下C选项错在哪里了？numbers of没有这个用法么？我记得是“大量的”的意思昂。。。。

A: no or错了，应该是either or
B：vast amount of staff members 错了，不应该用amount修饰members
C：numbers of=很多，对了，但是不如D简洁。a staff= a group of staff members=a group of employees. a large staff要比numbers of staff members 简洁
D：改正了BC的错误，用large修饰staff
E：no matter和how不简洁

两个都是可以的，但是不是这题的考点
a number of / numbers of + 可数名词复数 + 动词复数
可以理解为量词结构，a number of表示一些，numbers of表示大量
of后面的复数名词才是核心词，谓语动词因此总是复数

他可能想表达的意思是一般情况 the number of +is （number 代表一个整体来看或者一个“数字”来看作单数）（但是据说有意外比如the numebers of boys and girls are... 所以还是按照具体情况具体对待就好）

这里我也做错了查阅了相关的资料都没能找到一个很好的解释，但是如果从句子意思上出发其实这题没有那么难。
原句的意思是，委员会承认无论是 “多充足的资金”或者“多庞大的员工”都不能保证 blablabla
再回到选项中反推的话--D选项即vast amounts of money 强调的是vast amounts 与后面的 a large staff 强调large 平行
C 选项 neither vast amounts of money nor numbers of staff members 强调是的money 和 staff ----无论是钱还是员工都不能保证。。。破坏了原句的意思。所以这题选择D

C之所以错了是因为numbers of staff members 不如 a large staff简洁
a staff= a group of staff members=a group of employees. a large staff要比numbers of staff members 简洁

个人觉得不可能考察numbers of 和 a large 谁比谁简洁，两个表达的方式都不一样何从谈起谁优谁劣
numbers of 后面的词才是核心词（这个知识点CD有据可查）所以C里面的核心词是staff 但是逻辑上应该是 “多庞大的”才对。

我自己一个小小的总结就是过分的去总结一个hard rule 绝对不是一个好习惯，你不能说a large 比 numbers 好。可能这一题说得通，但是遇到其他题目很容易很容易就让你迷信这个错误的hard rule 而 miss 正确答案。

我依然坚持我的观点：从句子意思出发。C 说的重点转移了。自己读一读就知道了嘛~
