17.In the 1980's the rate of increase of the minority population of the United States was nearly
twice what it was in the 1970's.

(A) twice as fast as
(B) twice as fast as it was in
(C) twice what it was in
(D) two times faster than that of
(E) two times greater than

由A产生疑问,
The rate of increase is fast.
The rate is fast.

这样的搭配逻辑意思角度可以接受吗?

个人以为, the rate of increase代表一个数量, 相当于number, amount, 可以用表示数量大小的形容词来修饰, 而不能跟类似于fast的形容词来搭配.
