题目是OG16 VERBAL 分册SC部分的第21题：

Except for a concert performance that the composer himself staged in 1911, Scott Joplin's ragtime opeera Treemonisha was not produced until 1972, sixty-one years after its completion.
A. Except for a concert performance that the composer himself staged
B. Except for a concert performance with the composer himself staging it
C. Besides a concert performance being staged by the composer himself
D. Excepting a concert performance that the composer himself staged
E. With the exception of a concert performance with the staging done by the composer himself

答案是A项，但是D项的错误点我不清楚。希望大神们可以帮我解答下~小女不胜感激~
答案对于E项的解释是：Excepting usually appears in negative constructions; it is not the correct idiom in this sentence.

GMAT將except僅視作介係詞，
except不存在化做動詞甚至成為Ving的用法。

GMAT中只有except +介词+名词是正确的，excepting结构是错的。就当是固定搭配吧

想再问问选项C，除了being 是staged用得不对之外，可以用besides吗？
besides和except的区别是一个包括其后边事情，一个不包括吗？
那如果用except的话，就是说Scott 只做了Treemonisha，没有做前边提到的concert performance？
