标题: 想请教一下more than中的省略问题
这个问题我真的是一直搅不清楚，就是什么时候more than后面可以省略只保留状语，什么时候必须补出助动词。前两天挖了一下之前的帖子，收获很多，但仍然觉得不透彻。我先用两道题表达一下我主要的问题吧！跪求大神解答！！
A large rise in the number of housing starts in the coming year should boost new construction dollars by several billion dollars, making the construction industry’s economic health much more robust than five years ago.
(A) making the construction industry’s economic health much more robust than five years ago
(B) and make the construction industry’s economic health much more robust than five years ago
(C) making the construction industry’s economic health much more robust than it was five years ago
(D) to make the construction industry’s economic health much more robust than five years ago
(E) in making the construction industry’s economic health much more robust than it as five years ago
这道选c，我之前是这样理解的：虽然比较级前后主语是一个，但是谓语时态不同，所以必须补出表明比较级后时态的was
然后遇到了这道题：
Although Napoleon's army entered Russia with far more supplies than they had in their previous campaigns, it had provisions for only twenty-four days
Athey had in their previous campaigns
Btheir previous campaigns had had
Cthey had for any previous campaign
Din their previous campaigns
Efor any previous campaign
选e。时态是一样的，所以省略了只留下状语。这里的话好像此规律也得到了映证。
然后这道题出现了，我形成的系统就崩塌了........

- Aextinction; its numbers are now five times greater than
- Bextinction; its numbers are now five times more than

选a，然而明明比较级前面是its numbers are （一般现在时态）后面是讲过去的事情（一般过去时态），为什么后面不用补出 it was 变成its numbers are five times greater than it was when the use of DDT was sharply restricted in th early 1970's.

注意比较对象，主要是比较对象的问题
第一例，economic health 和economic heal 比
第二例 (in this campaign) 和previous比
第三例it was是省略的，因为不会引起歧义
第一例不省略是因为会造成比较对象的改变

省略了比较对象比如a选项
就是 today 和 five years ago对比
这样容易造成误解自然不如c清晰

btw 有NN说第二道题，they和their根本没指代，然后D很2，直接就是E，当然，看E后也没毛病
