Archaeologists in Ireland believe that a recently discovered chalice, which dates from the eighth century, was probably buried to keep from being stolen by invaders.

(A) to keep from

(B) to keep it from

(D) in order that it would avoid

(E) in order to keep from

The Key is B. According to OG, C lacks pronoun. However, why "being stolen by invaders" cannot be the object of "avoid"?

要看句子的逻辑意思。如果是C，意思就是“圣杯自己避免被入侵者偷盗”。“Chalice”作为“avoid”的主语是不符合逻辑的
