og16 最后一道cr,这个逻辑关系想了半天还是不明白，求各位过路大神指点一二，谢谢！

题干很简单，完全读懂了，但是这个答案的逻辑弄不清楚，正确选B。是这样解释的
B Correct. This provides evidence that the correlation observed in the

case the study results do not indicate that social interaction facilitates
mental sharpness.

因果推理找削弱
前提（因）：the more social contact people report, the better their mental skills.
结论（果）： simply talking to other people suffices to maintain mental sharpness as they age
因--->果 需要建立在一个Assumption之上：“因”必须可以发生！或者没有其他因素阻止“因”发生
举例：
只要我明天GMAT考800分，足以保证我上哈佛。
如果你“突然”发现你不认识英文啊！明天GMAT考800分可能发生吗？如果不可能发生，但你还要上哈佛，那么你是不是要采取别的手段？比如“突然”发现基辛格是我爹铁哥们！
如果你通过基辛格推荐上了哈佛，是不是不是单单通过“明天GMAT考800分”达到这个目的的呢？那你还能说“明天GMAT考800分”是你上哈佛的“唯一充分条件”吗？
这题的意思就是这些老头老太太常吃的药或者治疗会让他们根本无法正常交流，那不做数学题或者玩点别的维持智商，就等老年痴呆啊！

请问E选项为什么不对？不可以这样理解吗？就是说这项研究表明提高mental sharpness 是因为 数学问题导致的，而不是conversation导致的。

我也在思考这个问题，struggle了很久。虽然还是不是很懂E到底在表达什么。但是可以确定的是B一定是对的。
就像OG解释的，argument中说的是单靠talking to other people就可以保持大脑聪慧，而不至于变笨。
方向是talking to other people对大脑聪明度的影响。
而B选项说的是大脑变得不聪明以后，talking的能力也变弱了。变成了大脑不聪明从而导致talking受影响。
这样的话逻辑方向就反了，也就weaken了argument中的conclusion。
不知道能不能帮到你。

B．正确。“很多损害人得精神机能的治疗会导致人的社交孤立。”说明并不是社交活动让人精神锐利，而 是精神的损害会减少社交活动，换句话说，精神健康的人就会有更多社交。这是因果倒置，Weaken原文推 理。
C．“很多人同时精通社交和解决数学难题。”未涉及到果，和原文无直接关系。
D．“此次研究没有搜集数据，而是基于以前研究的相关数据来分析的。”结论的可信度虽然和支撑数据的 可靠性直接相关，但是因为不能直接确认以前的数据准确或者不准确，因此不能直接判断这次研究的数据是 否准确，也不能判断对原推理的影响作用。 E．“试验所参照的对精神机能的衡量的任务更类似于数学题目，而非交流。”衡量精神机能的题目标准和 因果关系无直接关联。题目标准不管是什么，终反映的都是精神机能的好坏，这是（果）确立的过程。但 是因果关系所关注的只是（因）（果）是否发生，这是一个终结果。因果关系并不关注确立（果）的过程。 因此此答案无关。

我开始也想的是E 后来看答案上说证据证明是数学导致的mental sharpness并不矛盾，因为本来数学跟社交就都能导致mental sharpness。所以conclusion 不受影响

E：没有在论证相关性。
我觉得这道题最难的地方就是CDE迷惑太大了。

多谢解答，我这题也是卡了很就，一看到三种对于因果关系题的weaken 方式我就豁然开朗了。
也在同一时间明白了JJ 里的一道因果关系要求加强的题目。题目表示 A -->B，找加强，构筑找的是非B-->A ! 本来不明白，现在真是一通百通了。

一看到it is widely assumed就是新老观点型里面的旧观点
一看到in fact就是新观点
一看到evidence就是在论证新观点
这是阅读里面的结构分析
所以道题的因是最后的那个evidence，果是新观点。
这道题可以用相关因果----因为evidence里面说了相关性----社交越多，mental skill越强。
重构因果：
因：研究表明social interact上升和mental skill有正相关性
果：所以为了保持或增加mental skill,只要social interact就足够了（suffice）
正确答案要说社交和mental skill的相关性，要么给mental skill上升再来一个解释。
A：无关，只说了一个
B：说了他俩之间的相关性----某些治疗能不利地影响mental skill和和social interaction-----是一个其他的因素导致了两者的相关性，那就是某些治疗，所以这两者之间本身是没有相关的！！！！！反驳了因中的相关性！！！也就是说相关性的不存在导致因果关系破裂！！！！！
C：只说了一个
D:脱离主题，两个都没说
E：说了一个

在gmatclub看到关于选项E是strengthener的解释，不是特别理解。有没有小伙伴能给解释一下呢？
如下：
Let's put it in simple terms:
Say I tell you:
People believe that solving Math maintains mental sharpness. But actually social interaction is enough. A study showed that people with more social activity have better mental skills.
Now, A says, " Mental skills were measured by checking language skills."
and B says, "Mental skills were measured by checking Math skills."
- who is strengthening my argument and who is weakening it?
A is weakening my argument since if mental skills were measured by language skills, obviously people with more social activity will report higher skills. It doesn't need to imply that social interactions lead to sharper mental skills. If all you are going to check is how well people can interact, the study will show that social people will have higher mental skills.
B strengthens my argument that social activity actually increases even the quantitative ability - which is probably one of the measures of mental skills. Hence, it does make my argument stronger that social activity is enough to improve mental skills - no matter how you measure mental skills.
Option (E) says what B says in my example. Hence it is not a weakener; it is, perhaps, a wee bit of a strengthener.

I read the explanations in OG 17 and beat GMAT, both provided very good methodology to analyse this question.
First, define this as a causal question.
Secondly, seek the premise and the conclusion of the argument, in the specific case:
Premise: The more social contact people report, the better their mental skills are.
Conclusion: social interaction suffices to keep mental sharpness.
Here, the conjunction words however and the sentence Evidence... can help you to get the premises and conclusions.
Thirdly, the question stem is to weaken the evidence, the evidence shows a correlation between mental sharpness and social interaction. （这个证据说明了大脑敏锐度和 社交之间的关系这种现象的存在）， but does not indicate why this correlation exists(但是没有说明这种关系为什么存在，或者说这种关系如何存在）.Evidence that mental sharpness contributes to social interaction or that some third factor affects both mental sharpness and social interaction( 如果是大脑敏锐度提高了社交呢， 或者说如果是其他原因提高了这两者呢.). 所以这里的B 选项 就是说其他的第三方同时导致了两者， 从而削弱了结论社交活动有助于大脑的敏锐度。
PS.: 我估计是不是很多小伙伴会不会像我一样理解 the more... the better... 的意思是 the more 的部分导致了the better 部分 ，所以导致这个题有点难理解。
从这道题来看， 理解 他们的每个用法的所有含义是很必要的 。

这个削弱题是问削弱evidence不是削弱conclusion， 原题evidence是社交越多， 脑子越灵活；（ 也可引申社交越少，脑子越不灵活。 ）
关键是对答案B这个GMAT非人话的理解。很多药物和治疗让人孤立不爱社交，按照作者上面括号里的逻辑，脑子应该不灵感活才对，但是B中从句说that adversely affect a person's mental sharpness, 即提高了脑子灵活性。 所以B的核心思想是 孤立不社交，反而导致脑袋灵活， 所以削弱了原题evidence
不说人话的GMAT啊

我觉得你的这个解释不正确吧。
adversely是指和conditons & treatments 的效用相反，而这些treatments都是有利于治疗某种mental之外的疾病的，所以E中应该是 一些治病的方法在给病人精神造成创伤的同时，也增加了他们的社会孤立。
因果倒置导致削弱吧我认为。

因为你的发现是：更高的社会活动（因）所以更高的精神能力（果）
所以A.如果所以衡量一个人精神能力的方法是测量他的语言能力的话，那更高的社交能力会导致更高的精神能力
（那显然如果你社会能力好自然你语言能力就好，那就得出你精神能力就高，但这不一定说明你精神能力就高，只是因为衡量标准是这样）
【举个例子】比如你发现说话说得多的人（因）数学比较好（果）
然后你衡量数学能力的方法是：测量这个人语言能力怎么样，这能判断它数学能力好么

B说C-->A, and C-->B. 这并不矛盾啊，没太看出怎么weaken了
如果是因果倒置或他因倒置也应该是smoke&depression或者volunteer work&longer live那种题啊

conclusion：社交--》脑子灵活
B: 吃药让人脑子变木的同时，让人孤僻。即同时对社交和脑子灵活进行反作用。
我的理由是：等式两边同时减去一个数字，等式不变这个道理。
除去那些因为吃药影响到二者的，还有那些没有吃药的，但是这些人的脑子灵活，是由于社交。因为conclusion里研究的是对脑子灵活的影响而不是对脑子变呆的影响。不明白怎么就引出了他因了。

第一次看的时候，也以为这里是因果倒置了，但因果倒置应该是这样的：（例如：自杀导致了失业，倒置过来就是失业导致了自杀）。而在这里应该是：mental skill 变得sharpness 导致 more social contact，或者是mental skill变得不sharpness 导致 social isolation。而实际上这道题的b，og解释得很清楚了，是：that some third factor affects both mental sharpness and social interaction,could provide an alternative explanation for the correlation and thus cast doubt....（虽然og前面也提到因果倒置可以weaken，但答案没有。在考场上来说，这两种理解都能做对题目，但对这两种不同的CQ(相关性不存在以及相关方向）理解有偏差，大概是理解选项的问题。

尝试解释一下：This provides evidence that the corrlelation observed in the study results from mental sharpness facilitating social interaction。虽然是其他因素影响导致（精神不锋利且社交孤立），依然能得出精神锋利有利社交的结论。
in which case，在这样的情况下，题干中的the more the better关系实际上不能被认为是社交导致了精神锋利，这样就无法得出题干的结论。感觉OG的解释中，the more the better并不是因果关系，而是同时存在的现象，至于那个是因那个是果还待定，而选项B正是给出了一个能定因果的依据，从而使题干中的结论（只是社交就足够）无从得出。
答案E在OG中只提了 The argument's conclusion would be compatible with this observation. 对结论没有造成太多影响。

感觉就是这种题目中说明A导致B的题目，一定要分清楚A和B的关系，然后多关注是否有因果倒置（他因等选项比较容易判断）

好多都说了，这道题是考因果，原文是A引起B，但是实际上是B引起A。这个关系容易理解。这道题比较贱的是两点：
1. 在不考虑逻辑的情况下，它给出的社交多少和精神状况的关系从AB或者BA想都可能成立。精神越好，社交越多，感觉是成立的。或者，社交越多，精神越好。单独想，也可能成立。这个设计就迷惑了B选项实际上是否定了原文的因果关系。如果原文说的是，小三越多，收入越高。选项说，不对，其实是收入越高，小三越多。大家可能就一下识别了。怎么迷惑让我们脑洞打开的？就是它第二个贱的地方。
2. 原文说：社交越多，精神越好。后面说，不对，其实是精神越好，社交越多。但是选项没有直接给出来这个逻辑，而是说，不对，精神越差，社交越少。这个时候问题就来了，如果能看到它的意思是说精神越好，社交越多，那就选对了。但是，这个时候，我们的脑洞开了，说，精神越差，社交越少。所以，原文是对的嘛，因为你这个时候增加社交，你的精神就好了嘛。看到没有，因为这两个单独想都可能成立，所以我们会跳进去。如果原文说，小三越多，收入越高。选项说，不对，是收入越高，小三越多。这个时候，可能很少有人会想，对嘛，那你就应该多找小三，然后就能提高收入啊。
3. 更贱的是，选项连精神越差，社交越少都没有说。它说的是精神越差，自我隔离（不社交）越多。
总结一下逻辑链：
原文：如果A高，那么B高。
削弱：如果B高，那么A高。
贱项：如果B少，那么A少。
更贱项：如果B少，那么非A高。
更贱项：如果非B高，那么非A高。

社交活动作为factor1确实会影响精神技能。我们先放在这里
存在一个治疗，作为factor2，第一个作用是会直接负向影响思维敏捷度，第二个作用是会减少社交活动，因此不能不能提高思维敏捷度。所以社交活动就算存在这个作用，最终也不能维持思维敏捷度。
factor2不仅仅会对最终结果（维持思维敏捷）产生不良影响，同时他也会组织factor1发挥作用
那么这个社交活动有个卵用？所以就削弱了

简单理解是不是：要削弱social+→mental+
而B选项给出当mental-时候→social也－了
隐含mental也会影响social
所以削弱
但是感觉B选项的意思又是药物同时-social和-mental啊
所以应该理解成要削弱social+→mental+，也就是削弱social-→mental-，
此时有一个同时-social和-mental的因素，就说明mental-不一定是social-导致的，所以削弱咯？
但是感觉social+→mental+和social-→mental-是能完全不等同的呀！

more social contact -> more mental skill
B选项，不是按因果来理解的，
如果理解为
less mental sharpness -> more isolation （less social contact）
那不就是增强关系了，因为这是题目的逆否命题。
关键在于是medical conditions and treatments导致的less mental sharpness 和 more isolation （less social contact）。
也就是说，这两者没啥因果关系，是第三因素导致的，这样就是对原命题的削弱。

两个角度考虑削弱：1后者影响前者（mental影响social） 2第三因素导致
B选项有两种理解方式，结合上面的两个角度分别是：
1Medical给mental带来消极影响，这种影响引起social isolation（mental影响social 这里Medical不重要）
2Medical给mental带来消极影响的同时，增加了social isolation（Medical作为第三因素同时影响mental和social）
个人更倾向于后者的理解，因为B中的句子结构medical blabla是作主语发出affect和tend to increase两个动作的。
其实考试的时候因为时间有限无论哪种思考方式都OK，体会出削弱作用就足够了。
另：这里的social和mental没有很强的因果关系，只能说是影响关系。而且非要取the more...,the better...的逆否命题也应该是not the better...,not the more...而不是the worse...,the less...

Gmat Club上看到的一个言简意赅且有说服力的解释。
The conclusion states that social contact improves mental skills. This could be true regardless of how mental skills are tested. Perhaps social contact improves performance on math problems.

According to the study, if you had more social contact, then you generally had better mental skills. But how were those mental skills measured? What if the tasks used to evaluate mental sharpness were more akin to CONVERSATION than to math problems? All that would show is that people with more social contact are better at conversation (duh!). That doesn't really support the idea that social contact can REPLACE math problems and crossword puzzles as a way to maintain mental sharpness.
However, what if the tasks used to evaluate mental sharpness were more akin to MATHEMATICS problems than to conversation? That would suggest that social contact COULD replace math problems as a way to stay sharp. In other words, you don't NEED math problems to stay sharp with mathematical tasks. Rather, you could use social contact to stay sharp with mathematical tasks. That could strengthen the argument.

关于C，有个类比：
众所周知：爱吃汉堡容易发胖
研究发现：爱吃冰淇淋的人往往都很胖
结论：爱吃冰淇淋就会变胖
选项：很多胖的人既爱吃汉堡又爱吃冰淇淋
那么可以削弱结论吗？不可以
因为，即使汉堡可以使人变胖，冰淇淋难道就不可以使人变胖吗？
同理所以C不对
选C可能脑补太多了～
