标题: 求教OG16RC新题里一个长难句

选自OG16的130—136题，也就是那篇关于文艺复兴女权的文章（倒数第二篇）

感觉这句话理解起来很困难，劳烦各位大神帮忙解答一下~

Many recent works by these scholars stress the ways in which differences among Renaissance women—especially in terms of social status and religion—work to complicate the kinds of generalizations both Burckhardt and Kelly made on the basis of their observations about upper-class Italian women.

我的理解是：in which一直到religion的部分都是修饰ways的定语从句（其中包括修饰differences的状语—among那部分，和破折号里面修饰women的那部分），但是这样理解的话定语从句结构不完整。那么这部分内容应该如何理解呢？

就是说最近的工作（还是作品？）强调了一个方式，然后从句还原回去就是"differences among Renaissance women work in the ways", 这个方式是文艺复兴时期女性差异work（大概理解为运作吧，有点抽象）的方式，然后后面的"to complicate the kinds of generalizations both Burckhardt and Kelly made on the basis of their observations about upper-class Italian women." 用来修饰stress the ways 的目的吧。
我是这么觉得的因为我第一眼看上去感觉是这样，但是有时候看句子第一反应过去就走不出来了所以我也不知道我是不是走入误区了因为这么看还是有点怪怪的，lz凑合理解吧或者再等高人解释= =

明白了~~
就是说in which一直到句子结束其实都是the ways的定语，其中differences work是定语从句的句子主干，to complicate一直到句子最后都是目的状语。
应该是这样的意思吗？

我的理解，第二个work是动词，work to do，“起...的作用”的意思。

再去掉乱七八糟的modifier，句子脉络是：

Works stress the ways in which differences work to complicate the generalizations.

原句中in which后面的，都是"ways“的 modifier。

我现在也在刷OG16，不过还没做到这一题。最近碰到不少美国，欧洲女性权力史研究的阅读，也是头大。。一起加油吧。

我的理解有点不一样。
Many recent works by these scholars stress the ways in which differences among Renaissance women—especially in terms of social status and religion—work to complicate the kinds of generalizations both Burckhardt and Kelly made on the basis of their observations about upper-class Italian women.
句中“especially in terms of social status and religion”应该是differences的修饰，而“work to complicate the kinds of generalizations both Burckhardt and Kelly made on the basis of their observations about upper-class Italian women”应该是works的说明。
否则 women work 这个单词放在哪里都怪怪的。

我来解构一下这个句子：
Many recent works by these scholars stress the ways in which differences among Renaissance women—especially interms of social status and religion—work to complicate the kinds of generalizations both Burckhardt and Kelly made on the basis of their observations about upper-class Italian women.
抓主干应该是：
Many recent works stress the ways, the differences work in the ways to complicate the generalization...
意译过来大概意思是，B和K研究的基础是通过对上层意大利女性的研究来代表全部女性（也就是所谓的generalization，一般化，普遍化），但这种一般化的研究由于女性在社会状态和宗教这些方面存在的差异而变得复杂（也就是并不能简单用这部分上层女性代表全部女性），最近学者的研究更加强调一些新的方向，这些方向就是研究上述的这些差异如何起作用的。

总之还是对前一句B和K两个极端的否定，同时又引出后边TINA K的例子，TINA只是针对特定的女作家进行研究，而不是用这些女作家代表全部女性。

- 主干结构是many recent works（主语）+stress（谓语）+the ways（宾语）
宾语：
the ways in which differences among Renaissance woman ... work to complicate...
- the ways是中心词，in which 引导定语从句，修饰the ways
定语从句分析：

- differences among Renaissance women 是主语，描述文艺复兴时期女性之间的差异
