一道真题,大家看看答案该选什莫?如果答案是B的话,D为何不对?

In 1981 children in the United States spent an average of slightly less than two and a half hours a week doing household chores; by 1997 they had spent nearly six hours a week.

A)       chores; by 1997 they had spent nearly six hours a week

B)       chores; by 1997 that figure had grown to nearly six hours a week

C)       chores, whereas nearly six hours a week were spent in 1997

D)       chores, compared with a figure of nearly six hours a week in 1997

E)       chores, that figure growing to nearly six hours a week in 1997

B里面的过去完成时用的没有道理; A中they没有指代对像; C的被动语态awkward; E的that引出的结构混乱.

综上所述, 我认为, D.

我也觉得B 最好

D “,"后 指过去分词短语,应该作状语,其逻辑主语应该是句子主语, children--显然 不行,因为不是 孩子在比 是数字比。

没有看到分号, 楼上说的对! 同意B.

Why not A? "Children spent N hours a week” in the first half of the sentence is parallel with “they had spent six hours a week” in answer A, thus, “they” can easily refer to children. In addition, “hours” or “chores” cannot possibly spend hours, therefore, children is the only logical choice. Although the past perfect tense in A is controversial, the next best choice, B, also uses past perfect.

明白了,是 “children" and  "compared with" 说不上话!

太好了,把我解脱了,之前苦想了好久,快憋死了!

The more I looked at it, the more compelling answer C is. It uses simple past for verb tense and “whereas” for conjunction word. The only flaw is the passive mode. However, it alone cannot constitute an incorrect answer.

I am a newbie

楼上,不能拿“children" 和 compare with 后的 "a figure" 放一起, 逻辑意思不配!

谁来说说A的不足?

I support A.

In B, that figure is strange. I see "the figure", seldom see"that figure" 应该有区别的。只是我也说不清楚。

A 的比较对象不对。 A的后半句的they指的是前面的children,按语法规则说。 但这明显不符合逻辑意思, 不可能是1981年的children和这些children在1991年比(那时他们已经成壮硕状,不是孩子了)。 比较的只能是figure.

好像有道理哦。

是不是把they改成Children就可以了吧,此Children非彼Children了吧。

哦,好像第一次遇到这样的错误,居然这么考ETS真是找死啊。
