Mauritius was a British colony for almost 200 years, excepting for the domains of administration and teaching, the English language was never really spoken on the island.

  • excepting for

  • except in

  • but except in

  • but excepting for

  • with the exception of

except vt. to not include something

    except something from something
High technology equipment would be excepted from any trade agreement.

    excepting  prep.

used to introduce the only thing or person in a group about which a statement is not true [= except (for)]:

    那D but excepting for 为什么不对呢?

    102. Except for a concert performance that the composer himself staged in 1911, Scott Joplin's ragtime opera Treemonisha was not produced until 1972, sixty-one years after its completion.

    (A)  Except for a concert performance that the composer himself staged

    (B)   Except for a concert performance with the composer himself staging it

    (C)   Besides a concert performance being staged by the composer himself

    (D)  Excepting a concert performance that the composer himself staged

    (E)   With the exception of a concert performance with the staging done by the composer himself

Choice A is best. In B, the participle staging inappropriately expresses ongoing rather than completed action, and the prepositional phrase containing this participle (with... it) is unidiomatic. Likewise, C uses the participle being inappropriately. In D, the use of Excepting in place of the preposition Except for is unidiomatic. Choice E is awkward and wordy.

从joe11给的注释看,我认为D中的for至少不正确,可能会有歧义,the domains was really spoken on the island.

    2. excepting for, rexcept in, with the exception of放在句中有问题.

    3. c, d 用 but使前后两句断开, 使excepting for, except in 修饰后面的句子.

Mauritius was a British colony for almost 200 years, excepting for the domains of administration and teaching, the English language was never really spoken on the island.
    excepting for
    except in
    but except in
    but excepting for
    with the exception of

所以只有C or D.后面是说language seldom spoken on the island,除了in the domains of...,要对称,所以要用in the domains...

    我觉得这道题中,in不是与except连用吧,而是用在in the domains of。。。

Agree with bigbeard, "in sb's domain" is the reason.
