把thereby看做一般的副词好理解些~不过OG上的那道题还是很困惑

不confuse啊，用别的语法书学GMAT句子改错本来就是大错特错，GMAT句子改错之所以不叫GMAT语法就是因为它和传统的语法并不一样，GMAT有他自己的一套规定，很多传统的语法认为正确的在GMAT中认为是错误的。

回到这个问题上，这是个平行 to touch and (thereby) activate.
