    was conical 和was banked 并列,两者主语都是the house,所以选D

    It can be argued that "banked" is used in parallel with "overlaid", and "either cedar or pine" is a parenthesis.  This parallel structure is well reasoned and well balanced by the "with" prepositional phrases.
