标题: 请教推荐人选择:美国大老板vs中国小老板 [打印本页]

标题: 请教推荐人选择:美国大老板vs中国小老板
正在准备申请mba申请. 在之前研究所和现在的公司(都在美国),大老板都是美国人但对我的项目不太熟悉,直接老板都是中国人。按理说我应该选熟悉我的推荐人,那就是两个中国老板。但这样选会不会不太好?需要其中一个改为美国人吗?但估计大老板对我做的很多细节不清楚怎么办?

此外我读phd时的老板是美国人,也可以写推荐信,但是不是尽量不要选学校的教授?谢谢啦!

Hello there!
Good questions. So first of all, the most important things to consider in selecting your recommended is 1. If your recommender likes you a lot 2. If they know your work experience very well 3. If they have seen you lead.

Afterwards, yes it can be sometimes helpful to get a  "big boss" esp. if they are really important and like you.

For your Professor, I think it's preferable to get a recommender from an employer rather than a school.

谢谢各位回复。但是最近出了些问题。最近和公司小老板谈了,但她说是与现在职位无关,只能写陈述事实和比较中性的,不会写表扬的,评价也会少写。估计我们部门大老板也是这个态度。那这样的话找这两个人写推荐信都可能反而会有负面作用吧?

我现在准备找另一个比较资深的中国同事帮我写了,因为至少能保证写得好写。大家觉得这样可行吗?

Hi Jon,
Thanks for the suggestions. Things changed recently after I talked to my manager. Seems my manager is reluctant to write a positive letter. She said since MBA is not relative to my current position, she can only write a neutral letter stating the facts, but with very few comments (less alone praise). I think our Director (aka the big boss) may act the same due to the recent high turnover rate in our dept.

My plan now is to reach to a senior Chinese colleague to write the letter instead, since at least I am sure it will be positive. Is it the right solution? Any suggestions? Thanks!

That is the right solution! A non-positive letter is not worth anything… so only get people who will be excited to write nice things.
