22. Although dozens of New York's small museums are either devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, there are many one-of-a-kind museums from Manhattan to the Bronx that are open for exploration on summer weekends.

(C) Dozens of New York's small museums are devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, but there are

(E) Devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, dozens of New York's small museums and also
B or D?

(although most modern-day amercian parks are either modeled on "romantic" unspoiled landscape or english garden, there are) other park designs from the italian baroque or islamic traditions that are equally worth of imitation.
a although most modern-day amercian parks are either modeled on "romantic" unspoiled landscape or english garden, there are
b although most modern-day amercian parks are modeled on "romantic" unspoiled landscape or english garden,
c most modern-day amercian parks are either modeled on "romantic" unspoiled landscape or english garden, there are
d although most modern-day amercian parks are modeled on "romantic" unspoiled landscape or english garden, and there are aslo
e modeled on "romantic" unspoiled landscape or english garden, most modern-day amercian parks and aslo
答案是A

Although dozens of New York's small museums are either devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, there are many one-of-a-kind museums from Manhattan to the Bronx that are open for exploration on summer weekends.
(A) Although dozens of New York's small museums are either devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, there are

(E) Devoted to local history or various ethnic groups, dozens of New York's small museums and also
B or D?
The answer should be D.
The structure of choice A, "...either devoted to local history or various ethnic groups ...", violates the parallel principle. If we rewrite chioce A as "...devoted to either local history or various ethnic groups...", the structure of it will be parallel.
Besides lacking a necessary comma, chioce B also lacks "there are" to generate a integrated sentence, and we even cannot find a predicate in the main sentence. Chioce E has no predicate in the main sentence as well.
Without any grammar errors, choice C, however, unreasonably implies that "small museums" is contrast to "one-of-a-kind museums" by using "but" rather than "and".
We normally use "one-of-a-kind" to describe something that is special beacuse there is nothing exactly like it.

it is an oversimpled view of cattle raising to say that_____________________drive them to market when the time is ripe.
a all one has to do with cattle is leave them alone while they feed themselves, corral them, and to
b all one has to do with cattle is to leave them alone to feed themselves, to corral them, and
c all one has to do with cattle is leave them alone while they feed themselves and then corral them and
d the only thing that has to be done with cattle is leave them alone while they feed themselves, corral them, and
e the only thing that has to be done with cattle is to leave them alone while they feed themselves, to corral them,

d although most modern-day amercian parks are modeled on "romantic" unspoiled landscape or english garden, and there are aslo
e modeled on "romantic" unspoiled landscape or english garden, most modern-day amercian parks and aslo
答案是A
In this case, chioce B and E lack predicate in their main sentence respectively, and in chioce C, a comma falsely connects two independent sentence, and also, chioce D falsely use "and" to connect a subordinate clause with main sentence.
In a nutshell, chioce B,C,D, and E even cannot generate an intergrated sentence, so we only have chioce A, which although has obvious errors according to ETS, it is at least an integrated sentence.
In real questions from ETS and real test, however, you won't meet such situation as above.
Sometimes, we are really confusing with the different answers and explanations among the different reviewing materials even for a same kind of question, and in such situation, we have to keep ourselves from indulging in these non-real questions and back to real ones.
Actually, we can find obvious hints that both Kaplan and Princeton try to design questions similar to those of ETS, sometimes, even simply mimic those of ETS, especially for SC. Unlike ETS, which has a team of prestigious language specialists to design every question, and organizes peer reviews before using them, and finally each question will be qualified in the real GMAT tests, other organizations, such as Princeton, have no such affluent resources and rigorous process to guarantee the correctness of their questions and consistency with ETS. This is the reason why OG is the most valuable and only dependable reviewing material especially for SC. For other non-real questions, we have to analyze them case by case.
Becasue every question from New Oriental School is a real one, according to its claim, we have to pay more attention for those from New Oriental School than for those from other resources.
As far as your second question, chioce C is right; its structure is " all one has to do is do sth, do sth and do sth", and you can find further explanation in LZM.
good Luck!

The answer should be D.
Without any grammar errors, choice C, however, unreasonably implies that "small museums" is contrast to "one-of-a-kind museums" by using "but" rather than "and".
前者devoted to local histories or viarious ethnic groups,后者只是for exploration on summer weekend.

Although “but” has different meaning from that of “and”, when both of them function as conjunctions, they demand same structure; that is, if a structure like “A, and B.” is grammatical right, “ A, but B. “ is also grammatical right, even these two sentences have opposite meaning to each other. So here we cannot depend on the structure to make a judgment. In addition, we definitely can use “there are…” after whatever “and” or “but”; why not? In the structure of “ A, and B “, clause A can have different structure to clause B.
ETS always uses a complex and very long sentence to describe a situation, which otherwise could be described by some short, simple, and independent sentences. We can find many much more complex and longer sentences than this one in OG, but “long” and “complex” do not mean “not concise”.
The key to this question is whether or not we have a contrast. We use “although” to show a contrast, but we don't have a contrast here because "small museums either devoted to local history or various ethnic groups" is not in contrast with "many one-of-a-kind museums from Manhattan to the Bronx."
I guess you were confusing with the meaning of this sentence; if we wanted to use “although” or “ but”, we'd have to have something like "mass appeal museums" to be in contrast with "one-of-a-kind museums". Actually, most “one-of-a-kind museums” themselves are just “small museums”.

简单点吧,我认为其中题目中对比的东西是“devoted to local histories or viarious ethnic groups,和for exploration on summer weekend”而不是什么museums;或者说museums就是同类,但因为功能不同而形成对比。
我顺便再此请教一下D17801兄吧,OG183那道,讲a recently discovered chalice,...was probably buried to keep it from being stolen by invader的,还有印象吗?
D,in order that it would avoid, 解释说 moreover, avoid is used impresily in C&D ...illogically suggests that the chalice is acting to prevent it own theft.
其实初读句子时感觉,如果表示对比的话,如果按我自己的理解“devoted to local histories or viarious ethnic groups,和for exploration on summer weekend”是”功能“对比意思的话,我也认为同样少了点什么。
如果按17801兄所说,musemus指的是同类,那么“devoted to local histories or viarious ethnic groups,和for exploration on summer weekend”这两个表示的也是同类。

OG183,把宾语从句提出来.... that a recently discovered chalice, ... , was probably buried (to avoid / in order that it would avoid ) being stolen by invaders.
这里 to avoid 和 in oder that...

那说明即便在C选项 to avoid后面加上“it”——was probably buried to avoid it being stolen by invaders.
Moreover, avoid is used imprecisely in C and D because it illogically suggests that the chalice is acting to prevent its own theft.
通常,Sb/Sth do ...to avoid sth/doing sth,Sb/Sth 这里 chalice被掩埋 to be avoided ...
