标题: 一道关于比较的题目

Only seven people this century have been killed by the great white shark, the man-eater of the movies—less than those killed by bee stings.

A. movies—less than those

B. movies—fewer than have been

C. movies, which is less than those

D. movies, a numberlower than the people

E. movies, fewer than the ones

正确答案是 B

我选的 E
比较疑惑不解fewer than (the people/those) have been killed by bee stings这里the people/those为什么可以省略？
因为seven people killed by the great white shark和 X people killed by bee stings人数是不一样的
如果 have been killed by great white shark和have been killed by bee stings平行，那两者的主语都是seven people，感觉语法上有问题啊

B/E的差别在哪？

* 破折号（dash)
根据manhattan SC 5th, 破折号可以跳跃修饰，尽管在这里加入了插入语 the man-eater of the movies,
恰恰是破折号，使得跳跃插入语，直接比较people killed by shark和 people killed by bee stings
基于这点，B is preferable;

*代词
B项没有补出，如果补出，我认为并不一定要是seven people, 可以直接用people/those，这样不存在你说的歧义，当然这么说可能有点牵强；
E 补出the ones，那么the ones 是也是存在指代歧义的 seven people? people? movies?
再者，the one，使用了定冠词“the”,有特指的意思，指向补出部分与前面提到的seven people是完全一样的7个人，这7个人不可能又被鲨鱼咬，
又被蜜蜂蛰，完全distort  meaning
基于这点，E的错误似乎更明显一点

*是否补出动词
  其实我觉得补出动词恰恰是弥补了指代可能存在歧义的问题，
  补出动词have been，明确将省略部分指向people，不存在可能知道movies的歧义，因为movies无法填补到have been的前面

以上，觉得B更preferable
最近被SC折磨得好痛苦，越来越觉得没有放之四海皆准的rules, 要learn case by case吧，好选项是比出来的。

我不是很同意这位同学的说法，

比如，the ones用了the, 冠词，就表示是refer back to 前面的7 ppl。但是因为ones 后面kill by bee stings本身就是修饰部分，后置定语修饰ones, 当然ones 前面要加the.所以我不觉得这是排除的理由之一。。。

我看了PREP那一堆解释，都不是很有说服力啊，感觉是对着答案去强行套说法的，或者说如果用那些point来排除，会越来越糊涂。我觉得唯一能让我转过弯来的解释就是平行，因为前面 7 people have been killed by 后面最好也用句子的形式来修饰。。。。。

我觉得你的说法是对的，我现在回头来看这题，前面是用的have been，那后面也应该是个时态，因为比较的是前后两项事物在同一时间点的不同，所以时态应该一致，符合平行的要求。

我这几天一直在看PREP08 很多语法点都是不对的。。。。。有的太绝对了，看到很多可以反驳它的正确选项。。所以考试时候就是灵活得进行比较，选出最优的。

less than 杀AC
those 无指代，that和those只能指代被修饰名词的核心部分，在这里并没有被修饰名词，勿论被修饰名词的核心词;同理the ones也不符合,因为the ones就等于those。杀AE
D选项中数字与人对此错误

Ps：破折号含有表讽刺或者意外的作用，增加了AB的可能性。
More than（Fewer than）这种结构，应从平行入手。People have been killed by the great white shark与（people） have been killed by bee stinger结构平行，两者比较
