E. The discovery of twenty-one ceramic dog figurines during the excavation

利用简洁原则排除后剩下这两项，正确答案是E，但要和后面的double the number 搭配，是否B项更好呢？

E还是最好的. the discovery has doubled the number of artifacts known. discovery和known对应.

known to exist 是修饰artifacts吧？

主谓搭配原则的关键应在于discovery 和double能否搭配？

从逻辑上讲，应该是discovery使the number of artifacts known翻倍，而Twenty-one ceramic dog figurines本身是不能的。因为如果他们还被埋在地下（但他们还是存在的），就不能使the number of artifacts known翻倍。

句子结构要避免头重脚轻，直接用finding概括主语，使得主谓结构简洁，这是ets最prefer得，double在这里应该是产生结果，使得的意思，这个发现出土了更多的史前古器物，使得早已出土为人所知的史前古玩的数目又增加了一倍。

A中that开头错且 the excavating 不如 the excavation好

逻辑告诉我们只有发现这一行为才可以增加数量所以排除ABD

c 同样也是excavating 问题
