197.   Camus broke with Sartre in a bitter dispute over the nature of Stalinism.

(A) in a bitter dispute over

(B) over bitterly disputing

(C) after there was a bitter dispute over

(D) after having bitterly disputed aboutA

(E) over a bitter dispute about

A 是固定用法吗?berak .... in...???

in 和break 没有关系,in + a bitter dispute

dispute作为名词时:a : verbal controversy : DEBATE  b : QUARREL 我们可以使用a dispute about sth.

VI :to engage in argument : DEBATE;  especially   : to argue irritably or with irritating persistence

A break with B Over a dispute

a serious argument or disagreement
dispute with
The firm is involved in a legal dispute with a rival company.
dispute over
He got into a dispute over a taxi fare.【对a taxi fare的争论】
Every effort was made to settle the dispute , but without success.
dispute between
the bitter border dispute between the countries

而且解释里面说 the idiomatic form of expression is  broke..in, not broke…over。

Make sure that you appreciate the difference in meaning between the two sentences. If you say that C broke with S in a bitter dispute, you are saying that, during the course of the dispute, the 'break' occurred. If you say they broke over a bitter dispute, you are actually saying that they didn't break during the dispute itself, but rather that the dispute was the catalyst of their later (although probably not too much later) 'break'.

Given all this, only the first makes sense: C and S are not quarreling lovers who 'broke up' over their little dispute (as is suggested by choice E). Rather, they 'broke' ideologically from each other in the bitter dispute, but we don't know anything about how, or indeed if, the 'bitter dispute' affected their personal relationship.

A broke with B in a bitter dispute: A和B在争吵中决裂了(分手broke up with?
A broke with B over a bitter dispute:  A和B 在争吵后决裂,即->争吵是决裂的诱因
