标题: 请教一个句子结构方面的问题

有2道题,我觉得类似,但是答案思路却不同:

1.In the late 1930's and early 1940's, Jacob created many paintings --------the lives of famous African American activities.

(a)portrayed

(b)that they portrayed

2. The guilds of the Middle Ages began as associations in merchants established for the purpose of regulating the rules of commerce.

第1题我错选了A, 正确答案应该是B, 那按照这样的思路,第2题不也是B错么?

请指教.

1，谓语单一原则，这种情况只有一个可能-》which are portrayed the lives但是 portrayed vt后不能在直接加宾语，因为它的逻辑宾语已经提前，所以可以排除A

2，这个例子很好，看到established 后的for了吗，for ..是目的状语，不是establish的宾语，所以是对的

in->whith, associations with sb

associate ...with 固定搭配，高于一切原则，永远，不论是什么形式，这种零碎的东西需要背的
