Plants are more efficient at acquiring carbon than are fungi, in the form of carbon dioxide, and converting it to energy-rich sugars.
Plants are more efficient at acquiring carban than are fungi
难道不应该是than fungi are?就是Plants are more efficient at acquiring carban than fungi are.

A is more adj. than is B。 A is adj. B is adj. A more than B.这个句子以more adj. than 为中心对称,非常便于阅读者看清句子结构。
Plants are more efficient at acquiring carbon than are fungi, in the form of carbon dioxide, and converting it to energy-rich sugars.
Plants are more efficient at acquiring carbon than are fungi
Plants are more efficient at acquiring carbon than fungi are会有另外一种可能性:Plants are more efficient at acquiring carbon than fungi 这是一句话(先别管逻辑意思),然后这句话是主语从句后面加一个系动词are:主语从句+be+......
Plants are more efficient at acquiring carbon in the form of carbon dioxide and converting it to energy-rich sugars than fungi are. A is more adj than B变得不容易阅读了。 所以,把 in the form of carbon, and converting it to energy-rich sugars拿到后面最好,但是因为现在后面有了部分句子,为了不造成Plants are more efficient at acquiring carbon than fungi are是主句从句+be动词结构的“幻象”,最好的解决方案就是把fungi are倒装。
