The speaker is a English teacher for over thirty years and she was among the first teachers who taught in Islamic world. Although she agrees that having a universal language is important in nowadays, she emphasized that we should value diversity in language as well. She explains her opinion from several aspects.

First, not everybody needs to learn same extent of English. For example, a engineer may need much less than a lawyer. Secondly, English levels do not equal to intelligence levels. So we should not judge someone only base on their language skills. Moreover, for poor people, they may have difficulties to attend a standard language tests, such as TOEFL and IELTS. And also, different languages mean different kind of thinking. If people use various kind of languages can cooperate together, they can create more for the world.

At the end of the speech, the speaker says that if a language dies, we never know what we lose.

Although there are numerous of students who study in UK, the overall feedback of international students shows that over half of them do not feel ‘welcomed’ in UK and then tend to not recommend their friends to further study there. Among the counties, Japan, Nigeria and India are ranked at the first three places. Behind this phenomena, there is a hugh policy advantage provided by UK government to attract international students to study in UK. However, on the other hands, there is a few favorable polices for the international students to stay in UK after graduation.
