Parents should encourage their children to do their homework independently rather than help them to do it.
Education is an exclusively important issue in every parents’ eye. Since a proper way to foster their children may have a long-reaching impact on children’s personal development. Some hold that parents should encourage their children to finish their homework independently, while the opponent think that if parents can help their children would be better. In my perspective, children may benefit a lot from doing homework independently.
As we know, the homework assigned by teachers is a mean to test how well the knowledge their students have learnt as well as to consolidate knowledge. Homework is a kind of feedback which helps the teachers to find out how much the students can absorb during the class. Assuming that parents help their children to finish their homework, and definitely most answers are correct. But doing homework in this way could not help their teachers to realize whether the students really understand or not. As a result, the teachers may assume that their students understand the class and master this part of knowledge quite well. But actually maybe this is a wrong signal to teachers.
Completing homework independently is a rational mean to solidify what students have learnt during the class. During the class the children absorb the information passively, and student themselves may assert that they have master the specific method to deal with the problem. Actually, in the class, it’s the teacher that leads the whole class to deal with the problem together, and some of the students may just sit there without thinking. After school, reviewing the content in the class and then do the homework by students themselves is a rather good way to inspect what points they missed in the class.
In addition, admittedly, finishing the homework with the parents’ help can save quite a lot of time, but, can the children develop their imaginative and critical thinking under the “help” from their parents? The answer is definitely not. Take my cousin as example, when she doing the homework like painting, their parents would kindly offer the guidance to her . Beautiful and perfect seems the painting, but actually it’s her parents work. I’m afraid it contribute nothing to the personality development.
Finally, I would like to emphasize the importance of doing homework independently. Homework is a indispensable part which should be completed by children themselves. We should not just look at homework itself but the way the children complete the homework will have a far-reaching impact on children’s intellectual development.
