赞！！！！不过baby姐姐，我的第二个解释关于平行什么的错了吧，看第二楼说connected 修饰的是room，恩在逻辑意思上和were built是不平行哈~~词汇量不够，有些单词也不知道是啥意思就凭感觉了

关于这个"a scale of xxx structures of yyy rooms"如何awkward的问题，今天看到Manhattan论坛上Ron也提到：

GMAT尽量避免
x of y of z
x in y in z
这样的用同样prep来“串连”的结构

比如说这题

有人问这个of为啥不是in

the "of" is used to avoid the construction "Xin Y in Z". the gmat writers (like other good writers) generally useconstructions that avoid such bothersome repetitions.

    然后呢， A不对是因为，如果 were connected by 是和前面的were built 平行，那么，就少了个and.  A were built ****,*****,were connected**,我们把中间的修饰什么的省略就变成   A were built ,were connected,这样就很明显是少了个and，所以错误
  最后排除A,就是B~\(≧▽≦)/~啦啦啦

你解释没错啊，说得很好~你从语法上说，如果平行，前面应该加连词and，所以A错；2楼说从意思上blabla 所以A错

至于意思这个，我估计我做题的理解也就停留在xxx structures, yyy rooms这程度了，xxx yyy我都不管了，没能力从建筑学、美学什么角度捉摸是否make sense.....
其实我现在觉得，对于SC来说，掌握抽象词汇比掌握具体词汇更重要，具体词汇可以不认识，但要知道属于什么类型
"severance package"你可以不懂，但要知道某package和money是不可比的
thesis, discourses, treatise, paper....你可以分不清他们有啥区别，但你要知道他们大致属于一类（甚至等同，如同位语结构），必然是可比的
diabetes你可以不懂，但要知道是a disease，所以后面算单数
....
特别是第一点，SC最爱考这类东西了

今天看到下面这个例子挺经典的：
In no game this season has Harold made sucha spectacular play as in last year's championship game -->correct; the intended comparison is between the two games.

In no game this season has Harold made such a spectacular play as lastyear's championship game --> incorrect; the intendedcomparison is between the two games, but the sentence mistakenly classifieslast year's championship game as "a spectacular play".

if you apply your "pure grammar rules" above, then you are going tobe mistaken about one of #1 and #3 here; they are grammatically the same, but#1 conveys the intended meaning and #3 doesn't. similarly, your "puregrammar rules" will be wrong about one of #2 and #4, the former of whichfails to convey the intended meaning but the latter of which succeeds in doingso.

关于姐姐写的each这里还有点补充。除了语意上each这里是不对的之外，还有each作代词的时候不能单独指代，用法跟every、these一样。比如：
Each will go to the church every Sunday. (Incorrect)
Each of us will go to church every Sunday. (Correct)
Grill the fish on each side. (Correct)

通过scale of的意思(e.g. on a scale of 1-10)直接排除C/D/E就好办了。

我觉得做这题的时候，不太容易看出author's intended meaning...
我当时看到"scale of"顺眼，直接就想的是这样的句式：
Settlements were built on a spectacular scale of xxx structures of yyy rooms, each .....
然后就纠结于C还是E....一开始的路子就错了，就跳不出来了。

现在看来，理解意思是关键
Suri同学点解的那个"a scale of xxx structures of yyy rooms"的意思
"scale of"的意思
"connected"的意思 （类比united）
  不能说"each connected"/"each had been connected"
     They are all connected.
     They are connected with each other.

哈，感觉又把自己的错误解剖了一遍
