我的想法是这道题考的是compare以及句意，compare的是名词，所以不需要有do或者does，根据这一点先排除B和D。

剩下A, C, E区别在于对burning gasoline的表述；C的错误在不符合原文的意思，原文比较的是pollutants, burning gasoline和diesel fuel，而不是gasoline；A不如E简洁；所以，E。

还有，我觉得E即使换成fewer of 也可以。
