这是prep语法笔记上的解释，但是白勇语法对虚拟语气的注解是：

    

if条件从句的谓语动词用虚拟语气，主句谓语动词也用虚拟语气

    

1）表示与现在事实相反：从句用过去时（be一律用were），主句用should（第一人称）/would（第二、三人称）/coul/might + 动词原形

    

If they were
here, they would help you.

    

2）表示与过去的事实相反：从句用should + 动词原形，主句用should（第一人称）/would（第二、三人称）/coul/might +have + 过去分词(过去完成时)

到底哪个对哪？疑惑！

我的考虑是虚拟语气用would，然后they指代emissions，不知哪里错了？

我觉得不是虚拟，是条件，只要current trends continue，那么by the year 2010 carbon emissions in the United States will soar to a level more than one-third higher than were those in 1990, according to official projections.

但是，我记得条件状语从句用一般现在时表示将来的，这里为什么是will呢？？

在gmat 里 if 从句的时态要落后主句一个时态，if A happen，B will happen.
that 应该指代 level

为什么B中that后面不加助动词呢？
根据Prep 1 128解释说：对主谓宾全的句型主语比较：A do sth than B do.（AB为对等名词，加do是为了显示这是一个可以发出动作的名词，因而确定是主语，进而确定是主语对比，而不是前一个的宾语和后面的主语的比较）。时态要据后定。

这个不是虚拟语气啦，在gmat考试里面只有出现那些特定的动词才用虚拟语态，而在其他句子中出现could,would,这些只是区别于can,will考时态，XDF老师这样告诉的哈~

XDF的坑爹技巧之一。。。。。would和will在GMAT中是有考到语气的。would表对将来不确定或过去该发生而未发生，will表示很肯定的，将来一定要发生的时。此点在prep08上出现过。不记得是不是这题了
