carolhide版

说的非常非常的清楚,

D:if not accompanied by correspondingly increased sales, possibly leads

 correspondingly increased sales一体的,adv+adj+n=相应已经增长了的销售;另外leads错,lead

E:if not accompanied by corresponding increases in sales, can lead

corresponding increases in sales一体的,adj+n+介宾(句中类似状语成分)=相应的销售上的增长

D的最简化版就是“库存,accompanied by  sales”=伴随着销售的库存(什么样的库存?:伴随着销售的库存,说不通)

E的最简化版就是“库存,accompanied by  increases XX”=伴随着XX增长的库存(XX= 销售)(什么样的库存?:伴随着销售增长的库存,bingo)

谢谢楼上的解释

我的问题是这样的:

选项A when unaccompanied correspondingly by oncrease in sales, can lead

og上的答案说" correspondingly" is awkward and ambiguous

Why?????

副词不可以修饰名词,形容词可以修饰名词。

不过还有一个问题:

choic C 的解释: past tense were indicates a completed event, but can lead indicates a possiblity that continuous ;这里d, e选项都是用过去分词,难道过去分词也可以表示动做的延续吗?

这里说correspondingly ambiguous 其实是因为它可能会修释到 unaccompanied

C 不行因为用了表时间的 when. d, e 都是 "if"

Did MM refer to OG10-37:

37.   While some academicians believe that business ethics should be integrated into every business course, others say that students will take ethics seriously only if it would be taught as a separately required course.

(A) only if it would be taught as a separately required course

(B) only if it is taught as a separate, required course

(C) if it is taught only as a course required separately

(D) if it was taught only as a separate and required courseB

(E) if it would only be taught as a required course, separately

Also, the intended meaning is distorted when the adverb separately is used to modify required, as in A and C, or taught, as in E; B correctly uses the adjective separate to modify course.

Some thoughts:

Rising inventories: an ongoing action

increased sales: a finished action, more focus on the "increased" state rather than the increase action.

Thus, corresponding increase is prefered to correspondingly increased to match with rising.

前面的解释都很好,但我觉得你的解释是抓住GMAT的真谛了,即逻辑搭配,而逻辑搭配中最难的就是词与词的逻辑搭配,动作性名词corresponding increase 对应动作性名词Rising inventories。而且OG的解题点也提示了:Diction+Logical prediction当然还有其它小的地方也可以起排除作用,比如我觉得can和possibly还是有区别的,应该尽量尊重原文。

求解:为什么OG说The modifying phrase when…sales is needlessly difficult to understand?

第8题中正确选项E中是不是部分省略了谓语(be动词);另外主语怎么是inventories,而不是Rising inventories?

correspondingly 是副词, 用来修饰动词 unaccompanied, 并没有错.
但是 unaccompnied correspondingly 有些拗口, 不能算最佳.
