Hey there,
It’s a good question, and I’m not sure I can answer it in a single note. But I will try and give some basics:
1. the most important thing is to give an excited tone - that the referral shows that it is really backing the person
2. Just as important is that the referral contain CONCRETE stories, and better, LEADERSHIP stories
3. Often good referrals also take on a personal aspect - talk about the person’s interaction with teammates, their attitude
4. You also want to set up the referral to show that the person is one of the best in what they do.
These are some general guidelines, which I hope will help you out.
