从有口红开始就有诸如铅之类的有毒物质作为其成分出现，目前，制造商开始寻找有机路线。

                  例子：研究人员发现32种来自不同地方的不同的口红都含有镉，铬，铝，锰这些工业重金属，这对健康是有潜在威胁的。
                 进一步解释：涂口红的妇女每天都在微量摄入这些重金属。
                                                  而镉会导致畏寒，肌肉疼痛，严重的是心里衰歇
                                                 铬会导致胃溃疡和肺部中毒。
                                                  锰的摄入超标会损害神经系统。
                                                 *不像是铝，可以被体内的酸性物质氧化，铬的摄入是没有安全剂量范围的（只要摄入就有毒）

可惜目前还没有监管机构去控制口红成分中这些金属的含量。
                      事实上，这些金属不是制作口红的必须成分，而是工业机械污染导致的。
                      举例：07年评选出的最安全的33只口红品牌无一例外地含有铅。而铅是没有安全剂量可言的。

口红含有的其他成分：蜜蜡，色素，蓖麻，胭脂。（它们来自动物脂肪，染料，蓖麻油还有虫子。）
即便是来自天然的成分，古时候的口红也是有毒的，这就是美丽的代价。
