The reading passage focus on the issue that internal–combustion engine is going to be replaced by the hydrogen-based fuel-cell engine. The professor’s lecture deals with the same issue, yet he asserts that the hydrogen-based fuel-cell engine has some disadvantages which prevent it from becoming the automobile’s main source of power, which contradicts with what the reading states. In the lecture, he uses three specific points to support his idea.
First of all, even though the reading passage suggested that Hydrogen can be get from a lot of sources like the natural gas and even the water, the professor contends that the Hydrogen is not that easy to be produced and stored.to be used as energy, the Hydrogen must be turn into liquid, which makes it even harder to be produced and stored and at the same time, it requires an mature science and technology.
Moreover, despite the statement in the reading that the hydrogen-based fuel-cell engine may solve the environmental problems as its burning products is water, the professor argues in the lecture that it needs a lot of energy to purify the Hydrogen and turn it into liquid. And the process of it may pollute the environment instead.
Finally, the author of the reading claims that the hydrogen-based fuel-cell will be much cheaper since it will provide more energy while the professor of the passage asserts that it will be more expensive for the hydrogen-based fuel-cell since it will use a kind of mental, which is very expensive.
In conclusion, the professor clearly identities the weakness in the reading passage and convincingly shows that the central argument in the reading passage that internal-combustion engine is going to be replaced by the hydrogen-based fuel-cell engine is incorrect.
