Q15:
FastMart, a convenience store chain, is planning to add pancake syrup to the items it sells. FastMart stores do not have shelf space to stock more than one variety of syrup. Surveys of FastMart customers indicate that one-fourth of them prefer low-calorie syrup, while three-fourths prefer regular syrup. Since FastMart’s highest priority is to maximize sales, the obvious strategy for it is to stock regular syrup.
Which of the following, if true, most seriously weakens the argument?
A:  eople buying pancake syrup at convenience stores, unlike those buying it at supermarkets, generally buy it only a few times.
因为regular syrup=3/4 customer
low calorie syrup= 100% customer
D is the best answer.
The original passage is about low-calorie syrup vs. regular syrup, but A is about convenience store vs. supermarket, A is not really relevant.
FastMart stores do not have shelf space to stock more than one variety of syrup.

why? If low-calorie syrup sells at a higher price 那prefer regular的人更有理由不买 low-calorie syrup了 ?
D.
In general, customers who prefer regular syrup will buy low-calorie syrup if regular is unavailable, but those who prefer low-calorie will not buy regular syrup.
The original passage is about comparison between low-calorie syrup and regular syrup. D means low-cal syrup will be a good substitute for regular ones to capture the entire group of customers. But selling regular ones only will lose 1/4 of the customers.
C might work as assumption, not weaken. "does not sell for a higher price per unit " might mean equal price or much cheaper. But common sense tells us regular syrup usually will not cost lower than 1/3 of the low-cal ones.

Since FastMart’s highest priority is to maximize sales, the obvious strategy for it is to stock regular syrup.

LONGMAN:
sales:[plural] the total number of products that are sold during a particular period of time
“ In 2003, Wal-Mart spent $1.4 billion on its health insurance. This amounts to an employer contribution of around only $0.75 an hour per employee. This accounts for approximately a half-percent of Wal-Mart's $259 billion in sales in 2003. (Wal-Mart 5500 Filings, Wal-Mart Annual Report). “
C的致命伤在于没有说清楚: "Regular syrup does not sell for a higher price per unit than low-calorie syrup" 翻译为“普通糖浆的价格不比低糖糖浆高“。
Yes, D
| | D 说 | ||||
40 | 40 | 30(weaken) |

E Sales of syrup are not expected to account for a large proportion of total dollar sales at the average FastMart store.
E is nothing but out of scope
E tells us that there is no need to add syrup to the store since Sales of syrup are not expected to account for a large proportion of total dollar sales
But it dose not make any of sence to only store the regular syrup rather than low-carlio syrup via explaination of E.

顶 ! sales seems more likely to indicate the quantity ,not the amount.
IMHO, the ans is D
注意FastMart’s highest priority is to maximize sales,说明决定要哪种syrup的首要考虑因素是增大sales
R syrup
