81. The following appeared as part of a company memorandum.

“Adopting an official code of ethics regarding business practices may in the long run do our company more harm than good in the public eye. When one of our competitors received unfavorable publicity for violating its own code of ethics, it got more attention from the media than it would have if it had had no such code. Rather than adopt an official code of ethics, therefore, we should instead conduct a publicity campaign that stresses the importance of protecting the environment and assisting charitable organizations.”

“It is no longer cost-effective for the Perks Company to continue offering its employees a generous package of benefits and incentives year after year. In periods when national unemployment rates are low, Perks may need to offer such a package in order to attract and keep good employees, but since national unemployment rates are now high, Perks does not need to offer the same benefits and incentives. The money thus saved could be better used to replace the existing plant machinery with more technologically sophisticated equipment, or even to build an additional plant.”

1、 The evidence is insufficient to attribute the more attention of media to adoption an office code of ethics. One possibility is the ethic code adopted by competitor is not acceptable, the other is maybe the competitors have made a huge mistakes which will evoke great impact whatever it adopted the ethic code or not... Not sure about the reason.

2、Either/or choice;

3   make a conclusion not based on general outlook but on partial information (Partially conclusion)

Overlooks/omits the benefit from adoption of an ethic code.

Self -contradiction exists bwtween the conslusion and suggestion.

Since either the compaign on protect environment or charity all equal to declare the acopting an ethic code.

1. Logic fallacy - false inference. the good employees have the ability to find a job even under low unemployment rate, while the not so good employees do. So this policy will keep only the not so good staffes in but push the really good ones out.. and also, there should be a estimated on how much will cost to recruite new staff in case any vacancy emerges as a result of cutting the package. maybe it's more than the savings....

2. Overlooks/Omits other important factors  which is more important for long-term business than cost savings.  such as a culture, company image amd prestige not only for customer but also for the internal stakeholder.  The benefits brought by a good welfare to employee will be much more than the only cost of money.  Therefore, what is the mission of company, long-term devp.or only short-term profit?

3. Evidence insufficient- Is the costs saved by cutting of package is enough for purchasing of new machinery? Is it  feasible and profitable to open a new plant? How is the plan once the N.U rate come up again? All these need to be considered before making the conclusion.
