There is little justification for society to make extraordinary efforts—especially at a great cost in money and jobs—to save endangered animal or plant species.
Wrire a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain the reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these reasons shape your position.
The authour claims that making extraordinary efforts, especially at a great cost in money and jobs, to save endagered animal or plant species bear little justification. I fundamentally diagree with the proposition because it fails to take into the neceissty and great merits of saving endangered animal or plant species.
Admittedly, there is no denying the fact that it demands a great cost in money and jobs to save endangered animal or plant species. One can find a supporting example no further than looking into the WWF, World Wide Fund for Nature, which is a globalized non-governmental organization devoting itself to protecting natural environment and saving endagered animal and plant species. Worldwidely speaking, there are more that fifty two hundred thousands of followers and more than fourty five hundreds of volunteers of WWF among 100 different areas and countries and the number is keeping growing. What’s more is that back in 1970, WWF already raised millions and millions of funds for its operation. Moreover, in addtion to WWF, there are much more orgnizations which is similar to WWF, using lots of money and lots of jobs to focus themselves on saving endangerd animal and plant species. From these records, it is reasonable to draw that to save endangered animal and plant species, the society is making extraordinary efforts and costing a great number of money and jobs.
However, that merely looking at the cost but neglecting to analyze and take the reasons why the society pays such a great cost into account is of little persuasiveness of the justification of saving endangered animal and plant species. Actually, it is necessary and responsible for the society to make large efforts to save endangered animal and plant species. Firstly, humankind is blame to the fact that some animal and plant species are at the stake of extinction. In order to achieve the goal of industrilization and modernization, human invents and ulitize new technicals and new chemicals to promote its development, which, at the same time, leads to environmental pollution and poisonous material emission that directly or indirectly causes the extinction or some animal and plant species. Thereby the society must pay price to take the resposibility for damages they generate to save endangered animal and plant species. Secondly, even though it is not human’s fault for pushing animals or plants into an endangered position, saving them is valuable. Every species is unique and makes its distinct and irreplacable contribution to the biosphere. According to many biological study and researches, maintaining species diverse enhances the stability and resistivity to natrural disasters of the whole biosphere, which is also beneficial for human society therefore it is necessary for us to save endangered animal and plant species even at a great price.
Furthermore, from a different perspective, other than costing lots of money and jobs, saving endangerd is actually creating new jobs and making money in its own way. Take Chinese national parks for instance. China government and society make great efforts to establish national parks for the main reason to protect endangered animal and plant species such as pandas. Now, many of these parks are developing into popular destinations of tourists because these parks are the only places to see precious species. In this case, saving endangered animals and plants turns out promote tourism thus increase economic income. Moreover, with the fast growth of population, many countries are short of job supply and the unemployment rate keeps growing. But if the government and the society invest in saving endangered animal and plant species, new job postitions can be created and more people will be employed, which increases human’s welfare.
To sum up, while it is true that the society are making extraordinary efforts, sometimes at great cost of money and jobs, to save endangered animal and plant species, the society are doing so for their own responsibility and the stability of the biosphere. Moreover, when we are saving endangered species, they can pay us back with more jobs and more money.
