GWD4-31 并非重复发问

Q31:

Twenty-two feet long and 10 feet in diameter, the AM-1 is one of the many new satellites that is a part of 15 years effort of subjecting the interactions of Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, and land surfaces to detailed scrutiny from space.

  • satellites that is a part of 15 years effort of subjecting the interactions of Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, and land surfaces

  • satellites, which is a part of a 15-year effort to subject how Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, and land surfaces interact

  • satellites, part of 15 years effort of subjecting how Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, and land surfaces are interacting

  • satellites that are part of an effort for 15 years that has subjected the interactions of Earth’s atmosphere, oceans, and land surfaces

  • satellites that are part of a 15-year effort to subject the interactions of Earth’s atmosphere, ocean, and land surfaces

  • 这道题有一点不太明白,就是E选项的15-year effort 和原文的15 years effort 一样吗,我记得OG里有一道题就提到过有没有hyphen 是不一样的,不是吗

    D suffers 2 shortcomings.

    1. the subject of "that has subjected the interactions " is unclear. it could be "years" or "effort".

    2. "effort" cannot "has subjected" because it's human's "effort" with subject to do sth.

In choice E, "to subject the interaction" clearly states the goal of the 15-year effort.

    D的问题很多啊。首先,an effort for 15 years的说法很redundant,没有E的a 15-year effort简洁清楚。其次,that has subjected里没有必要用完成时。还有一点,如楼上所言,effort本身不能当主语去作subject这个动作.

thank you all, So D is not correct, but how come ETS change 15 years effort to 15-year effort this time, they are assumed to be different as in attached

    260. According to some economists, the July decrease in unemployment so that it was the lowest in two years suggests that the gradual improvement in the job market is continuing.

    (A) so that it was the lowest in two years

    (B) so that it was the lowest two-year rate

    (C) to what would be the lowest in two years

    (D) to a two-year low levelE

    (E) to the lowest level in two years

E, the best choice, employs idiomatic construction and uses the precise decrease... to the lowest level. Choices A and B are faulty in construction. The adverbial so that can modify verbs (e.g., decreased) but not nouns (e.g., the decrease). The meaning of lowest two-year rate in B is unclear; in any event the phrase distorts the intended meaning of lowest in two years. In A and B, the referent of it is unclear, as the pronoun could refer to either unemployment or decrease. Choice C improperly uses would be to describe a situation that is presented as a current and known fact. Also, there is no noun for lowest to modify; clearly “the lowest decrease” is not intended. In D, the phrase two-year low level is unidiomatic, as well as unclear in its intended meaning.

    这道题我做的时候就总想着这两者的区别,所以再由于A C有of subjecting 排除后又排除了B, E

    看着D也不顺眼,郁闷的很,楼上的两位能在帮忙解释一下吗,我这个月就要考了, 拜托

    现在做题还总是颠三倒四的,有些题目自己做两次,答案都不一样,我在网上听GWD的课,说要拿下GMAT,首先要拿下语法,可是我很kei了一段语法,没见什麽大长进

    Definition

subject sb/sth to sth phrasal verb [often passive]
to make someone or something experience an unpleasant or worrying thing:
The inquiry found that they had been subjected to unfair treatment.
"I didn't want to subject him to such a long journey, " she said

    Definition

    subject obj to obj
    [Show phonetics]
    phrasal verb [T]
to cause (someone or something) to experience (something, esp. something unpleasant)
How do you feel about subjecting people to random drug testing?

    subject to
    [Show phonetics]
    adjective
The bay is subject to heavy fog in summer.
Drunk drivers are subject to heavy fines.

(from Cambridge Dictionary of American English)

    可是如果我们把D选项的for years 挪到定语从句之后就更加有歧义了

    Julia mm,你不要急,我还没懂你的问题在哪呢。A 15-year effort里year应该是单数,类似的用法有a 15-year old boy。

    就是上面的260,

The meaning of lowest two-year rate in B is unclear; in any event the phrase distorts the intended meaning of lowest in two years.

    and

In D, the phrase two-year low level is unidiomatic, as well as unclear in its intended meaning.

感觉ETS的意思是 two-year rate 和rate in two years不一样,那末15-year effort 和15 years effort 一样吗

    在什麽情况下可替换,什麽情况下不可替

    我觉得og里的unidiomatic 像天书里的字眼一样难以理解

    谢谢楼上的回复
