求问一道OG老题,搜网上的解释好像都没有concern这一点:

805. Although she was considered among her contemporaries to be the better poet than
her husband, later Elizabeth Barrett Browning was overshadowed by his success.
A. Although she was considered among her contemporaries to be the better poet
than her husband, later Elizabeth Barrett Browning was overshadowed by his
success.
B. Although Elizabeth Barrett Browning was considered among her
contemporaries as a better poet than her husband, she was later overshadowed
by his success.
C. Later overshadowed by the success of her husband, Elizabeth Barrett
Browning’s poetry had been considered among her contemporaries to be better
than that of her husband.
D. Although Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s success was later overshadowed by that
of her husband, among her contemporaries she was considered the better poet.
E. Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s poetry was considered among her contemporaries
as better than her husband, but her success was later overshadowed by his.

但还有个疑问,就算her可一直待EBB's,但后面的she was considered的“she”还是没有指代对象吧?
为什么正确答案是这个呢。。

RON大神曾经说过,对待所有格代词最好的方法就是忽视它,因为很有迷惑性容易误导~具体的关于所有格代词的内容如下:

*First--做好的方法是just ignore it

*Second--the rule is that NON-POSSESSIVE pronouns can't refer to POSSESSIVE nouns.
----->
"its" is a possessive pronoun, so it can have either a possessive or a non-possessive noun as its antecedent.

If you have a possessive NOUN, then the limit applies. For example, in "the cat's fur," the word "cat's" is a possessive noun. If I wanted to use a pronoun to refer to the possessive noun "cat's," I could only use a possessive pronoun.

The cat's fur makes her tail look bigger than it really is.

In this sentence the pronoun "her" is a possessive pronoun and it is referring to a possessive noun. That IS okay.

The cat's fur makes her seem really fluffy.

In this sentence, the pronoun "her" is an object pronoun and it is referring to a possessive noun. That's NOT okay.

The cat is so fluffy that her tail looks bigger than it really is.

In this sentence, the pronoun "her" is a possessive pronoun and it is referring to a regular noun. That IS okay.

So, a possessive pronoun can refer to both a regular noun and a possessive noun.

BUT if you have a possessive NOUN, you can only use a possessive pronoun to refer to it - you can't use an object or subject pronoun to refer to a possessive NOUN.

*总结

所有格代词既可以指代所有格名词也可以指代普通名词
所有格名词只能被所有格代词指代

具体到这道题,her是所有格代词,所以可以指代所有格名词EBB~

按照这个rule的话,D选项中的she可以指代EBB吗?

我认为只看这条rule的话,确实不能说明she可以指代EBB
但是语法点那么多,我们不可能每一个都掌握,所以也无法判断这种用法是否正确
所以不如就像ron说的just ignore it吧hhhh

哦,sorry,没看到后面的。

Beatthegmat里Mitch是评论过这里的,quote
In the OA, the referent for she (subject pronoun) seems to be Elizabeth Barrett Browning's (a possessive).
In years past, this sort of construction was thought to be an error on the GMAT.
The OA to SC138 in the OG16 establishes a precedent:
On the current GMAT, it is permissible for a subject pronoun such as she to serve to refer to a possessive.

这里的重点在于如何看待这个正确选项,而不是怀疑这个选项,因为OA就是OA。

个人觉得这里she的使用是不够严谨的,不过考虑到这题的主意考点在其他地方,所以可能是疏忽了。但也可能就像Mitch说的,就变成可以接受的用法。

恩,确实其他选项都有更明显的攻击点。

本来是narrow down在B和D之间,但B里面among her contemporaries的摆位确实会产生歧义。

谢谢哈

像楼上另一位说的,这题关注点应该是在其他方面,所以这里就不是重点了。

其余几个选项也没有在指代所有格这个语法点上多做文章,应该是我考虑过度了哈哈

从语义上来看,的确D是最通顺的

B最主要的问题在于than her husband,不是intended meaning。

其他几个选项也都有同样的问题,所以D选项实际上是非常明确的正确选项,从句意判断。

可能正因为如此所以在pronoun的使用上没那么严谨。
