写essay的时候，发现学校的问法还是有较大的差异的：
一种是 What are your career goals? How will an MBA help you achieve these goals? Why are you applying to
还有一种是 Discuss your career progression to date. career goal, wny MBA, why XXX school?
区别在于第二种要求描述到现在的career progression。当然第一种也是要写career progression，但是我看essay sample的时候，发现没有问career progression的时候，往往写过往W/E所占篇幅较少，而开始就要求写career goal的essay，往往都会花很大的篇幅写过去的W/E。
不知道我的理解对不对？还望大家解答，谢谢！
In either case, I think you need to describe your career progress. Depending on the word limit of the essay, you can expand or shrink down the content of your career progression. Certainly, you need to focus why mba, why now, why this school more than your career progression which the adcom will find out from your resume anyway. Just my opinion, i can be very wrong.
career goals are not built up from nowhere. they'd better develop from your past experience, this is why some schools ask explicitly about your career progression. even if you want to transfer to another industry post-mba, you have to relate your past experience with your future goals, i.e. how you find consulting/banking interesting even if your are an engineer, your understanding toward your target industry, how your skills gleaned from past experience could be transferred to the new job, etc.
i think the major elements for why mba topic could be the same from school to school, but we should adjust the length of each element according to how this question is asked.
my structure for this topic would be: what i want to do in the future, my career progression and how i develop the interest in my future job, the gap between my current skill set/knowledge and what is required by the future job, why i need an mba to bridge the gap, why this school specific.
it really depends on the word limit.
Either topic requires you to touch your past career.
for the first topic, you may just give a very brief introduction. then go to short, long term goal and why MBA.
for the second topic, you can talk about ur career progression in detail and what did u do, what did you learn from ur work, why did you choose this path.
Actually, Duke's essay 1 and 2 for last year are perfect example.
they put these two essay questions into one essay question this year.
