找NN看Profile

麻烦各位NN帮我把脉,并推荐合适的学校。先谢谢各位了!

GMAT 720 AWA 6.0 V36 (80%) M50 (95%) (De fracto 鸡肋, I wonder whether 720/6.0 is enough for TOP 10 MBA?)

TOEFL iBT  111

Bachelor (2002) of EE, Shanghai Jiaotong Univ, GPA 3.7

Master (2005) of EE, Shanghai Jiaotong Univ, GPA 4.0

3.5 year Application Engineer W/E in semiconductor industry, Fortune 500 American firm. Have published articles in trade journals and led customer projects to successful production

Extracurriculum: lead team to win electronic design contest, photograph (how would photograph serve a strength in my application?), also consider social volunteer work this year

The reason for MBA education is a switch of career -- by working as an application engineer, I've gained much experience in world wide collaboration and leading customer's project to mass production. At the same time, a great interest and enthusiam for business development and general management deeply root and burgeon. Without a well-rounded knowledge base and management experience, I find myself somewhat reaching a bottleneck for my career advancement.

As my interest in MBA education is general management, international business, and consulting, I'd sincerely appreciate anyone evaluate my profile and suggest b-schools. I am currently considering TOP 20, preferably TOP 10 if my profile looks competitive enough.

Thanks a million!

enough for top 10 if you can express your competitve background as it is. the most important information the admission committee care is the reason why you are switching your career orientation. You should give the persuasive and unique reason for this transformation.

以下是引用rock2007在2008-3-27的发言:

Agree with that, especially when applying as an Asia girl.

I am not NN but here is my opinion. : )

It is too risky to use any top 10 "保底." I won't recommend to apply to any top 10 with a 保底 attitude. If you must pick a top 10 as your safe school, I think UCLA 保底比较安全. Your profile is very competitive in technology.

I have seen too many people who think that they are so hot but can't get in any top 10. I have a friend's friend who got a 4.0 GPA from a first tier US school and 4 years of W/E in finance. He didn't get any interview from any top 10. I don't know why but I guess that's because he is too cocky and careless.

I think that the key is to be strategic in choosing your schools and select the ones that fit your post-MBA goals. Your essays and interviews will sound more convincing this way. But overall, I think your profile looks quite strong on paper. : D

Also, you can consult a trusted MBA application consultant (such as Clear Admit) and have him/her evaluate your chances (the initial evaluation is free) of getting in.

quite conservitive about top 10

it's absolutely great to show your enthusiasm

but business development is too broad

you need to go at least 2 to 3 levels down to explain the details

general management is good  but the same situation

and general management comflicts somewhat with consulting

also what exactly "a well-rounded knowledge base and management experience" is?

and what specific courses you need to take and why

you'll have to explain these details to get into those tops.

Enough for applicants from technology sector.

Btw: is there a ranking list of b-schools sorted by their strengthes/inclinations regarding to different industry/sector, especially non-traditional sectors such as technology? Seems Sloan should top the list of technology sector, but who follow?
