I don't know what do you mean by 'foreign banks'. If you mean Citi, HSBC, and Standard chartered, then they are more a pre-MBA employers and most MBA in top business school won't go to such banks. In addition, experience in such banks are also not valued if you want to join IB, consulting, hedge funds, PE etc. If you mean other foreign commercial banks (even JPMorgan, Deutsche Bank, BoA, ABN), they are all tier 2, 3 banks in China. I still believe if you have strong clients base in China, and have good English/communication skills, then you can go to the above top 3 banks easily. Citi/HSBC/SCB value more about experience in their competitors than an international MBA, e.g. both Citi and SCB would like to provide high pay for employees in HSBC China. Managers in the three banks sometimes never look at opportunities in other banks unless the position/package is very good. I used to work in one of the three banks and don't see any advantage in my job hunting in London as they are commercial banks! |
