First of all, I am talking about HR in US. if your goal is to go back to China and work there, that is also not good but much better than US. HR relies on knowledge/understanding of culture. It is more soft skill than anything to survive in HR environment. For a chinese with average english to pass an intensive interview for any big HR department is next to zero. There are exceptions for people who are fortunate to be hired by international head hunting firm that has asia market focus. And guess what, there are not that many such position. In most companies, HR is dominated by white americans. I doubt you will be discriminated but your career path is very limited. In general, HR is an overhead department which is always the first department to cut when economy turns bad. if you are good enough, use your experience to apply for MBA and switch your career to a more demanding area. I understand a lot of people in China are working in a comfortable job in HR and assume it is going to be great in US. It is not true. The reason why they hire you is that it is so culturely dependent. So you will see HR being the first department that a US company localized, therefore you got your comfortable job. Now, here is my 2cents: China's HR will become more competetable in the future. When the high growth is no longer there (it will eventually slow down,, HR will be the first place that US capitalist pigs try to cut. |
