119 do you agree or disagree with the following statement? People behave differently when they wear different clothes.Do you agree that different clothes influence the way people behave? Use specific examples to support your answers.

People wear different clothes not only to suit with some special occasions, such as parades, but also to express their own feelings. Different clothes reflect different moods , what is more, different clothes sometimes affect people greatly, both in feeling and behavior. So I am totally agree that people behave differently when they wear different clothes.

The most important reason for me to think that people behave differently in different clothes is that people tend to change their image through different clothes. This is expressed in many fictions and cartoons. For example, the spiderman acts totally different when he wears a custume. In real life, he is shy,   unsociable and eccentric, but while in a spider-man custume, he becomes a super hero. In everyday life, people tend to change their image and behavior accordingly to their clothes too. People act maturly when they wear suits and ties, but the same people act wildly in party dresses.

Secondly, People wear different clothes in different accasions, thus they act differently. In a funeral, people in dark never laugh or show happiness, however, in a parade, everybody wear colorful dresses, dancing, singing and having fun.

The are also other reasons that lead me to the conclusion that people act differently in different clothes. One is that different clothes help people express different feelings. When a person is sad, he or she may wear darker clothes and tent to act in low spirits, whereas a person who is happy, he or she may wear colorful clothes and act in high sprits.

According to the reasons above and many other reasons that I have no time to state one by one, I can easily reach my conclusion that people behave differently when they wear different clothes.

Do people behave differently when they have different clothes? This question seems to arouse great controversy among people of opposite opinions. Whereas some may adamantly argue that there are much evidence clearly indicates the causal relations between one’s apparel and his behavior, others may firm contend that behaviors are more linked with one’s personalities rather than his clothes. As far as I am concerned, I believe that the speaker confuses the causal correlation between these two. Clothes do not influence one’s behavior. Instead, one’s behavior, that is, what one will do, influences one’s choice of clothes. In the following paragraphs, I would like to elaborate my main points from two aspects.

Firstly, one’s job responsibility and the working condition often exert effects on one’s choice of clothes. Let us consider plumbers as an example. It is well known that many plumbers wear jeans, T-shirts and sneakers at work. This is because their major job responsibilities are concerned with various pipes and sewage, which are very likely to dirty their clothes when they are at work. Does that mean the plumber will become “another man” when he is not at work and wear his nice and decent suit and polished shoes? No, I don’t think so. He may still be himself, nice and gentle or coarse and rude. Therefore, it is not clothes that define one’s mode of behavior, but the physical condition and behavior that require one to wear certain kind of clothes.

Secondly, the common code of practice and common sense, that is what one is expected to behave, always modify one’s choice of clothes. Take a lawyer in a law firm as an instance. Can he wear T-shirt and jeans at work like a plumber? Yes, what he wears is totally up to his own decision. But will he? Probably not. Although the working condition does not confine him to his suit, the code of practice plays an important role in his choice of apparel. It is unreasonable to judge the lawyer incompetent merely because he has jeans at work, yet most of clients will definitely choose those who wear suits for legal assistance. This is called “psychological hint”, which exert influences on one’s choice of clothes. People tend to believe that those who have suits will behave more professionally, which is just an illusion. Critically speaking, one’s capacity has nothing to do with one’s clothes. It is just for the same reason that most of the ladies will wear evening gowns and perfumes at grand festivals. It is because they must behave or appear to be seriously or elegantly in such formal occasions that they choose to wear differently.

To sum up, because of the above-stated reasons, which may interweave into an organic whole and become more compelling, I soundly reach my conclusion that one’s clothes do not influence one’s behavior but one’s behavior influences one’s choice of clothes.
