24． “A powerful business leader has far more opportunity to influence the course of a community or a nation than does any government official.”

Who has far more chance to influence the course of a community or a nation, a powerful business leader or a government official? This problem seems to arouse controversy between divergent opinion groups. Some may argue that the business leaders can exert greater influence due to their financial resources availability. However, others assert that a government official can serve the community through political power. Recognizing that a more proper solution to the question can only be achieved by incorporating all relevant aspects, I would like to advocate that although both business leader and government official are able to influence a community, a business leader usually has far more opportunity to influence it in modern world.

In the first place, the important reason that can be presented to develop my position is that great business leaders have more advantages to alter the way people in the community live by furnishing products or service. For example, as the digital TV becomes popularized in our community, people within it watch a wider range of TV programs and enjoy the great pleasure that the digital TV product operator brings about. They don’t need to suffer from scare TV programs anymore. It is obvious that the leader of the digital TV product provider play a pivotal role in making such a decision.

In the second place, powerful business leaders invariably need to make decisions at determining specific investment location. Once the ultimate decision is made, the place their companies invest will immediately acquire a large quantity of technology and funds to develop its economy. Moreover, it will also bring lots of job opportunities for the local residents. Specifically, nowadays many CEOS of top 500 international corporations have gradually realized that china is an important integral part of global market and began to put a majority of their investment on Chinese market. As a result, china’s economy is growing at an approximate 8 percent annual rate these years, and Chinese people’s life situation is dramatically improved.

One argument against my contention may assert that in some countries where governments greatly interfere with the economy and hence the life of their people, the government officials will have far more opportunities to show influence or even curb the community or nation. Admittedly, it may be the case. However, as the voice of mainstream economists who contend that market be the main tool to adjust the economy is highly valued by more countries, market economy has become the main economic system. Accordingly, the power and chance that a government official possesses is increasingly impaired.
