On the way to success, which factor contributes more, to focus on the specific task at hand or to only think about the final results? Some people may say that the key to success is to focus on the details of the project rather than to worry about results. Although this claim is not wholly insupportable, however, in my view, it will be more effective to focus on the task at hand and not to ignore the end product.
To begin with, to pay more attention on the task at hand can make people more surefooted. It is impossible for people to accomplish what they desire without focusing on the process. And in the meantime, an ideal result comprises a well-planned process. We can learn from the experience of the great inventor Thomas Alva Edison that the step-by-step completion of every task is a precursor to success. The voluminous personal papers of Thomas Edison reveal that his inventions typically did not spring to life in a flash of thinking but evolved slowly from the every previous hard work. Over-commitment to the result may lead people to nowhere but despair. Consequently, it is wise to be devoted to every individual task to ensure good result.
In addition, concerning the task at hand will lead people to perform the task better. The more specific the work is, the better will it be carried out. To be specific, a company manager often divides the final target into several sub-targets as an efficient way to make perfect the details of every task. As long as every task can be performed effectively, a successful result itself will naturally come out.
On the other hand, it is admitted that if we only focus on the details and ignore the final results, engagement in the task will lack systematic and will be somewhat random. Without reference to the final goal, we would have no idea of what task to perform in the first place or of what extent to complete the task to, thereby wasting time and energy in the process, which means that no matter how diligent and careful we were in performing them the likelihood of producing worthwhile or successful target would be minimal. Many cases have shown us that it will be a better way to take a balanced approach to every task at hand.
In the final analysis, neglect to the final results will cast a shadow on the way to success. By focusing on the task at hand with reference to the end result, people can achieve what they pursue. |
