A34. The following appeared in a proposal from the sheriff of Adams County.
“This year the number of teenage drivers involved in traffic accidents here in Adams County has increased by 200 percent, and officers from the county sheriff’s department have cited a record high number of teenagers for violations of traffic laws. To deal with this increasingly serious problem, the now-optional driver’s education course at Adams County High School should become a required course for all students before their graduation. Furthermore, the board of education should purchase 10 new cars to provide all students in the classes with extensive on-the-road driving experience.”

1What is the exact meaning of "involved in the traffic accidents"? It is likely that the teenagers were innocent victims. If that is the case, then the proposed suggestion by the author is not very applicable and
valid.
2Likewise, the violation of traffic laws can not simply be resolved by the improvement of drivers' education either. There are many kinds of violations including the violations as pedestrians.
3Even for the teenage drivers' violation of traffic laws, there are some other choices other than the transfer of drives' education course from optional  course into required course. In fact, the author's suggestion is not very efficient compared with the stricter punishment according to the former experience and common sense.

4. The arguer dose not provide the valid evidence to support that the driver's education could increase the safety of those teenagers or that the teenagers receiving the driver's education are not in the violators.

One additional point:

The "200% increase" and "the record high" does not necessarily indicate a large number of teenager violators. In other words, the problem may not be so severe that a required course for all students is needed. Some other alternatives will probably achieve better effects.

Pehaps the teenage drivers who have taken the driver's education are more likely to involve in traffic accidents and violations of traffic laws because of the bad-established systematical education.

The purchase of new cars is unnecessary to strength the efficiency of driver's education because there are enough cars for students to use during their course. The major holdback of the course is lack of special faculty.

my points:

1. vague statistics. unsufficent info on the original status of teenage drivers involved in accidents. The number of earlier years might be extremly small like 2, thus making the apparant shocking increase of 200% not that significant.

2. Non-causal relationship. No evidence to show that the increased number of teenager drivers involved in accidents are responsible for the accidents. Equally possible that they are obeying the rules perfectly and were involved in accidents due to the misconduct of careless adult drivers.

3. Even if the analysis is true, a required driver's education course is not necessary and sufficient to solve the problem as the accidents are very possible caused by carelessness or even purposely misdeed rather than lack of driving skills. Similarly, the purchase of 10 new cars for teenagers practising on-road driving would not eleminate the real cause of accidents.

2)even if the increased accidents are caused by teenagers,how if most of them did received by now-optional driver’s education course at Adams County High School-then a required course for all students before their graduation is open to doubt;
