4Other factors rather than the inventory contributed to the decline of the revenue of the Largo Piano.
A4. The following appeared in a memorandum from the CEO of Volare Airlines.
“Even though our record last year of on-time takeoffs and arrivals was not as good as that of several other major airline companies, our total revenues were among the highest of any airline. Clearly, an on-time record is not the passengers’ first concern, and so we should not risk reducing our revenues by trying to improve our record. Instead, we should try to attract new passengers by announcing a program of incentives and discounts. Consider that Flugel Airlines saw ridership increase last year after it lowered fares on its most popular routes, whereas Aero Airlines lost customers even after its president appeared on television to apologize publicly for flight delays.”
1Most of the passengers chose the VOlare Airlines may just had a try, and will not make such choices again since they concern the punctuality a lot.
2Other company's strategy may not be suit for the Volare.
3It is profit rather than the revenue that is the determinant of the final decision of a company. No resolution can be reached unless a benefit-cost analysis has been made.

2.Clearly, an on-time record is not the passengers’ first concern,没证据证明 and so we should not risk reducing our revenues by trying to improve our record.谬论 Instead, we should try to attract new passengers by announcing a program of incentives and discounts.一派胡言


3. 把Volare Airlines与其他公司作错误类比


另外这个whereas Aero Airlines lost customers even after its president appeared on television to apologize publicly for flight delays---对延误航班道歉导致顾客流失是否与前面“Even though our record last year of on-time takeoffs and arrivals was not as good as that of several other major airline companies, our total revenues were among the highest of any airline.”有矛盾?这个是怎么一回事?

我觉得作者的这两句话没有矛盾。


他是想说


1我们公司的“准时”报告不怎么好,但是收入一样不错。


2某某公司的老总都为延误道歉了,他公司的收入也没变好。


但是他的推理显然是有问题的。


首先是因为我提纲里的第一点


其次是可能这家公司其他的方面十分出色而抵消了延误的不足


最后那家老总道歉的公司也很可能是因为其他方面也做的很不好而导致业绩很差的。

1,其他公司做广告可以increase profit不等于自己也可以(false analogy)


2.道歉的事正好说明了customers对ON TIME地重视。


3。从公司自身来看,也许知名度已经很高了,也就是说做广告的效果不会太明显,只有提高ONTIME能力才有竞争力。。。。。

这段话中例子的问题


1/ FV的例子支持力度不足


First, FA之提高了ridership,并不代表提高了revenue


Second, FA的经验不一定推广到VA



2/ AA例子的问题

即使是在道歉后失去了顾客,也不能说明道歉是没用的,因为不道歉可能失去的更多。

我来插一句,,按照新东方老师的教导,还要质疑他的数据,去年的数据不能代表今年

1)all things are equal-experience in last year does not guarantee the high revenue in the furture without improvement in on-time takeoffs and arrivals;

2)casual oversimplification-Flugel Airlines saw ridership increase last year after it lowered fares on its most popular routes-Flugel Airlines also improved a lot in in on-time takeoffs and arrivals last year,so we don't know which factor counts more in the increased revenue.

3)Aero Airlineslost customers even after its president appeared on television to apologize publicly for flight delays- because Aero Airlines do nothing to improve the on-time takeoffs and arrivals except  merely apologize in public. 

4)attract new passengers by announcing a program of incentives and discounts is not guaranteed since the similar programs conducted in the last year already attracted as many people as we can-people do not take our airlines concern about the on-time flight-so we need to improve the  on-time filght.
