我觉得人应该是在比较明确自己的最终目标的前提下，根据已有基础设立一个容易实现的并为这个最终目标而服务的目标。
1对大多数人而言订立一个根据已有基础的不难实现的目标有助于最终实现计划走向成功。这也是符合心理学规律的

2盲目地好高务远对一个人的成功是无益的。这样做的话人往往不知道具体的细节应该如何操作。而由于目标太大很难完成往往使人产生沮丧的情绪然后更难以完成由此陷入恶性循环。
3当然订立小目标的时候也要明确自己的最终目标。这样才能高屋建瓴统筹全局，既可以完成好每个小的细节又可以从全局上把握自己的人生走向。

1。 set their sights on the position they ultimately want to reach 是没法做到的，而且也是没有必要的。人们应该有阶段性计划。

长期的，中期的， 短期的目标， 分别设定一下。

2。 begin immediately working toward that goal是应该的。 万里之行， 始于足下。

只有实在的行动中见不断调整方向和目的， 才能真正成长和适应环境。

人生需要理想.

理想需要调整.

确定ultimate goal不是一个简单的过程,需要进行调查和分析,更需要在实践中加以检验,确定和更正

一旦确定最终目标,就应该果断的采取措施实现自己的目标.可以举例子象Bill Gates, Dell一类的吧
