Q2:

The average hourly wage of television assemblers in Vernland has long been significantly lower than that in neighboring Borodia.  Since Borodia dropped all tariffs on Vernlandian televisions three years ago, the number of televisions sold annually in Borodia has not changed.  However, recent statistics show a drop in the number of television assemblers in Borodia.  Therefore, updated trade statistics will probably indicate that the number of televisions Borodia imports annually from Vernland has increased.

Which of the following is an assumption on which the argument depends?

  1. The number of television assemblers in Vernland has increased by at least as much as the number of television assemblers in Borodia has decreased.

  2. Televisions assembled in Vernland have features that televisions assembled in Borodia do not have.

  3. The average number of hours it takes a Borodian television assembler to assemble a television has not decreased significantly during the past three years.

  4. The number of televisions assembled annually in Vernland has increased significantly during the past three years.

  5. The difference between the hourly wage of television assemblers in Vernland and the hourly wage of television assemblers in Borodia is likely to decrease in the next few years.

请问C是怎样推出来的?

前人未提出疑问,估计是相当简单的,可我想不明白。麻烦各位了!

It is a strange question. There are lots of gaps and we need a bunch of assumptions to make the argument hold. My understanding is that the argument relies on the fact that it is still cheaper to assemble TV in V than in B. Therefore when there are fewer TV assemblers in B and fewer TVs assembled in B, the TVs are imported from V for the lower cost.

Any comments?

Personal Opinion:

To reach the conclusion "the number of televisions Borodia imports annually from Vernland has increased", at least two assumptions should be made: First, total annual demand for televisions in Borodia does not change; Second, working efficiency of assemblers does not change in Borodia so that decrease in assemblers in Borodia would not result in decrease in televisions produced there. C agrees to the second assumption.

"Second, working efficiency of assemblers does not change in Borodia so that decrease in assemblers in Borodia would not result in decrease in televisions produced there"

I am sure you meant that it would result in decrease in TV produced in B.

Because, total demand stays same. The # of TV produced in B has to decrease to support the argument. If the assembling hours also reduced in B, less TV worker in B might not mean the total # of TV produced in B also reduce.

请问为什么要假设 First, total annual demand for televisions in Borodia does not change呢?

个人觉得第一个assumption 没有必要 因为原文中the number of televisions sold annually in Borodia has not changed.已经说明产品供应量并没有改变 那么假设说需求不变对句子没有什么影响  小小想法

更准确地说应该是在工作效率不提高的情况下结论成立,而不是工作效率不变的情况下。
