In a study of the effect of color on productivity, 50 of 100 factory workers were moved from their drab workroom to a brightly colored workroom. Both these workers and the 50 who remained in the drab workroom increased their productivity, probably as a result of the interest taken by researchers in the work of both groups during the study.

Which of the following, if true, would cast most doubt upon the author’s interpretation of the study results given above?

(A) The 50 workers moved to the brightly colored room performed precisely the same manufacturing task as the workers who remained in the drab workroom.

(B) The drab workroom was designed to provide adequate space for at most 65 workers.

(C) The 50 workers who moved to the brightly colored workroom were matched as closely as possible in age and level of training to the 50 workers who remained in the drab work-room.

(D) Nearly all the workers in both groups had volunteered to move to the brightly colored workroom.B

(E) Many of the workers who moved to the brightly colored workroom reported that they liked the drab workroom as well as or better than they liked the brightly colored workroom.

If B is true -- the drab room only has enough sapce for at most 65 workers, then most likely the productivity increase of both groups simply come from the reduced crowdedness.  This obviously is a better explanation than what the author suggests.

the two groups's productivity both increase -- (author reasons that) probably as a result of the interest taken by researchers in the work of both groups during the study.

B says that "The drab workroom was designed to provide adequate space for at most 65 workers." so two groups are done in different conditions. -- meaning: besides the color, the more space could be a reason to boost productivity

可是我觉得应该是researchers对试验的兴趣啊,不是 the interest taken by researchers in the work of both groups during the study.

同问probably as a result of the interest taken by researchers in the work of both groups during the study.

Reserchers take interest in the work of both groups during the study...

probably as a result of the interest (taken by researchers in the work) of both groups during the study

括号里的taken by the researchers in the work 是interest的同位语,interest的内容是being taken by the researchers in the work,(他们对参加研究人员的实验感兴趣)。

原文:开始说研究者要研究颜色和工作效率的关系,于是做实验,发现效率一样提高了,最后一句probably as a result of the interest taken by researchers in the work of both groups during the study. 说这个结果是研究者感兴趣的结果,即研究者认为实验结果有效,根据这个结果推知工作效率和颜色无关;
