从语法角度来讲, 形容词修饰名词, 用名词修饰名词不合理. 虽然我在日常生活中看到过这样的例子, 但OG上还没有, 有可能我看得不够细, 若有发现记得告诉我. 所以population changes不规范, changes in population才是正确的表达.
OG里有一题极其相似
OG161. A wildlife expert predicts that the reintroduction of the caribou into northern Minnesota would tail if the density of the timber wolf population in that region is more numerous than one wolf for every 39 square miles.
(A) would fail if the density of the timber wolf population in that region is more numerous than
(B) would fail provided the density of the timber wolf population in that region is more than
(C) should fail if the timber wolf density in that region was greater than
(D) will fail if the density of the timber wolf population in that region is greater than (D)
(E) will fail if the timber wolf density in that region were more numerous than
抛开用wolf与density搭配, 而不是density与population搭配这个错误, CE都用了wolf density(名词修饰名词)这个表达, 而ABD用的是the density of the wolf population. 不知楼上有没有领会我的意思. ETS给我们的判断是多方面的, 也就是说错误的选项若与正确选项有出入的地方, 多半(不绝对, 有反例子)那种表达就不好. 所以名词修饰名词不优选.
