关于ＮＵＭＢＥＲ用法

我记得numbers of的用法不是不正确的吗

number的用法：　a number of  +谓语复数

                               the number of 　＋谓语单数

这里表示的意思是an amount of something that can be counted，可以有复数的表达。见longman的一个例句:

Young people have been leaving the countryside in large numbers for urban areas.

In addition: in OG 251, ' it's numberS are now five times greater than ... '.
