I got following explaination from Yahoo, and I think it makes sense. The previous year means the calendar year before the one you're in. Today is June 18, 2008. The previous year is January 1 to December 31 2007. In the previous year is the last twelve months. That would be June 18, 2007 to June 8, 2008. I think we can understand it better by substituting ' year'for 'week'. For example: I went to met Andy last week. (means the action happened at any time in last calendar week: from monday to sunday ) I went to met Andy in last week. (means the action happend at any time of last one week: from seven days before yesterday until yestday ) So the same rule for YEAR. open to discuss.
