recover from是固定搭配。

即便是recover from, C仍然错误。首先，动名词作主语很罕见，OG里几乎没见过。其次，OG认为trying to表示名词是错的。参见OG 6的解释:

Although an “-ing” verb such as trying can sometimes be used as a noun, the phrase the organism’s trying to metabolize in A is unidiomatic because trying is used as the object of organism’s.
