我的问题是，如果按照对称，B用the apes或apes更好呢？

问题是这里用a vocal tract比vocal tracts好。所以用an ape, 不用复数.

B, the best choice, logically uses Neanderthals as the subject. Choice A also uses this subject, but the plural pronoun those does not agree with its singular antecedent, a vocal tract. Moreover, it is better to use the singular in referring to an anatomical feature common to an entire species; C, D, and E use the plural vocal tracts. 是不是an ape是固定用法呢？or the other..

如果说a vocal tract of apes, 我觉得会有歧义。"所有apes的一个vocal tract", 好像所有的apes只有一个vocal tract。

不过话说回来，Neanderthals had a vocal tract 是不是也有这样的歧义，我也不太清楚。

我不是牛牛~~但我認為an ape's中的an ape是一種全體總稱的方式! 例如:A dog is a faithful animal. 這裡的A=any  所以 an ape是表猿人的全體總稱~與單複數無關

我当时做题时这样想，Neanderthals had a vocal tract that resembled those of the apes   those= vocal tracts

还原就是Neanderthals had a vocal tract that resembled vocal tracts of the apes  

意思是说Neanderthals的vocal tract与apes的那些vocal tracts相似

这样好像觉得A选项没什么问题

当还时觉得B的ape's的所有格不合适，于是就排除B选了A，结果错了。

看了ＯＧ解释，还是不明白为什么those指代错误
