metabolize the chemical irritant and render the chemical irritant harmless. here render=make;to cause to become.

OG 上说: organism's trying to metabolize is unidiomatic because trying is used as the object of organism's. 我有点糊涂, 为什么能说Mary's coming这样的短语, 却不能说organism's trying? Thanks!!!!

我觉得OG不会说Mary's coming, 而会说Mary's arrival.

确实的: OG不会说Mary's coming, 但我翻了翻别的语法书, 都说这种用法是可以的. 我想知道organism's trying是否违反了什么我不知道的语法规则.
